Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Trysil end of season skiing

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I’m looking to go to Trysil around 20th April for Easter skiing (it’s the last week of their season). Does anyone know if the snow is reliable then or are we taking a risk? As the flights are quite expensive so I want to be fairly sure Of snow! Thanks

You should be OK, but I don't know how much of the resort will be open in the last week. We were there in mid-March and there were already some bare patches. They've started to close a few pistes, likely due to thin snow cover.

We were there a few years ago in April for a late Easter. Precisely why we chose it. And there was quite a dump one day/night. So April can be pretty good.

Thanks! I was in touch with the resort and they weren’t sounding so optimistic so I might reconsider, I thought it was guaranteed but I see it’s not the case.

I think Skistar did have some sort of guarantee against booking and the resort closing through lack of snow, and/or some sort of insurance you can take with them, but the insurance (if you take it) looks like you have a right to cancel up to 21 days in advance. Maybe not great for this trip?

Thanks, I did see the guarantee but not sure it helps me as my flights will be quite expensive and those are the only dates I have to travel. So even if they refund me the pass won’t be much good to me! Maybe I’ll just need to wait a bit closer to the time.

Does it have to be Trysil? Other Norwegian resorts are available.

But Gaustablikk doesn’t look much better.

Out of curiosity, if you did go are you flying into the new airport (I think its called Scandanavian mountains airport) or driving miles from Oslo?

I only ask as we were initially considering the same, but flights were either not available or insanely expensive!

Yep, that's what I found too! The SAS site almost always says none available, the only time it didn't, I can't remember how much it was, but it wasn't cheap!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

There were flights, I think mainly at the weekends to coincide with SkiStar’s change over day but not many so went pretty quickly and yes they weren't cheap. And I think you still had to pay to get a transfer to the two resorts it serviced. When I was looking it was cheaper to fly to Oslo and drive. The drive is not overly far/long and is an easy one.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

We visited Trysil at the start of January and were due to fly fro Heathrow into the Scandinavian Mountains Airport, however SAS cancelled the flight at the last moment and we flew into Oslo instead. I believe SAS cancelled the flights due to low seat bookings. The Oslo - Trysil transfer isn't that bad to be honest and the coach is high-spec and comfortable and usually not busy.

 You know it makes sense.

The drive from Oslo to Trysil is easy enough. Takes a couple of hours.
