Given the success of last years thread, and with Sölden just five weeks away it is time to start building some excitement and to get the 21/22 thread going. For all the avid WC ski racing fans that contributed to last year's successful thread welcome back and to all newcomers welcome to the white circus
We have an Olympic year on our hands, with medal races in Yanqing (Beijing), China on a hill that has not been raced before.
We will also see the tour make its way back to North America following the travel restrictions due to covid last year - and as last year - the combined events will not feature on the WC - though there will be a combined event at the Olympics.
UK + Europe: https://www.eurosportplayer.com/ - signup required £6.99 per month, annual options available - looks like they are moving to the discovery+ platform not sure if you now get more than just eurosport player in the package.
Alternative is to sign-up to Eurosport through Amazon - you can only access through Amazon video to watch not through the Eurosport player - they have in the past run offers for £0.01 per month new subscriber promo.
If you're in Europe the below broadcasters cover the races, otherwise a VPN will be needed for access - they are all free to view

Really looking forward to this seasons racing. Just a reminder that Eurosport have for the last two years sold a full years subscription for half-price (£19.99) on Black Friday.
Would love Dave to win a Gold this season, with a top 5 finish to boot!

Over before it started for Alice Merryweather - USA skier.
interesting that this seems to have gotten the green light - recalling there was a lot of earlier athletes voicing concerns against this due to fatigue given the altitude and course length as well as concerns about the wind!
Sounds absolutely bonkers if you ask me - but lets see if this happens next season

I love it, provided the legit concerns about weather are respected.
If we are ever going to increase interest in ski racing beyond ex racers and basically nobody else (at least over here) we need to try stuff. Book it and see what Mother Nature brings us. Lots of races at much lower elevations get cancelled due to nasty weather.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Wendy Holdener is to miss Soelden
Quote:
Holdener injured herself during fitness training on Monday when she fell on both hands from a training device. The immediate extensive radiological investigations at the Hirslanden Clinic revealed fractures of the navicular bones on both hands, which do not have to be operated on.
as will Tommy Ford who is still recovering from his nasty crash 3-gates from the line in Adelboden last season
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

To get pumped up for the coming WC ski season
RedBull have just launched a miniseries that followed Marco and Loïc as they battled it out on the WC ski circuit last season...
Quote:
Marco Odermatt and Loïc Meillard are rising stars within the Swiss Alpine Ski National Team. We get exclusive access, following them around the globe as they train, compete and enjoy their free time.
In no way can I be considered a racer but I do enjoy watching it so will follow this thread with interest

BTW, I think I'm correct in saying that if (like me), you subscribe to BT Sports AND Sky Sports, BT will chuck in Eurosport gratis.

The races start tomorrow - the slope looks to be in perfect condition - looking forward to the Olympic year!
You can watch on Eurosport or via VPN and following the links to the local broadcasters!

Will be watching tomorrow!
All being well we'll be in Zagreb for the Snow Queen after the new year as well, never watched any ski racing live so pretty excited. Am assuming it won't be as drunken as ski jumping in Zakopane but may be wrong!
@ElzP, no it sure won't be that bad. Zagreb is really good when it comes to this, Soelden is worse, but Zakopane easily beats all that, including Kitz or Schladming.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Away at the in laws this weekend, but have the races set to record. Looking forward to the season getting going!

@ster, I hope so. I suspect Graham Bell will want to get back to it after his dancing on ice disaster!

I hope he gets back to presenting it.

@ster, same. I don't mind Chemmy, but Bell has a far more polished presenting style.

@Timmycb5, indeed. Chemmy’s a bit excitable for me and when she waves her hands about, especially when with those white gloves on, I find it all bit distracting.
You know it makes sense.

LGB starting the season in fine form once more I see.

I assume Alex Tilley's comparatively high start number (40) is due to poor results last season, though I don't remember them.

Yes, but will be all done by end January as Olympics year. Think Graham will be doing more feature this year, with Chemmy/Ed presenting
re Alex Tilley, pretty sure that's her best result (13th) in a GS or Slalom (excluding team events)

Yeah the 13th ties a previous PB.
Was extremely great watching LGB and MS at the end. MS was so clean to watch and then seeing LGB follow her it was hard to see how she was going to get the lights to turn green and somehow she did on the steep and made a buffer I was convinced with her downhill skills she would manage to hold the lead and glide it out - but guess it just wasn’t meant to be so. MS’s 70th is quite a feet in itself - it’s also the 10th consecutive season now she’s won 1 event - what’s crazier is 4 other women have also done that!’

Jealous of you all who have coverage...ours sucks. MS is happy again, so watch out world. Pleased to see LGB continuing; between her and PV they'll keep things interesting.

@barracuda, true on all counts. Some TV coverage eventually, again at 0 dark 30. Apparently Gymnastics and car auctions are more popular, based on what NBCSN/Oly Channel is showing. (I confess I like the car auctions )
