Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Manchester to Turin on Sunday

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Guys.... I'm sure some have done the Manc to Turin trip on Sundays recently. Are the reports true about the airport being a neetmare?

I've got a 07.50 flight on the 3rd.....

Hi,

It may depend on the airline but just 2 weeks (05/03) back on a recent trip the check in on a Saturday for TUI was horrendous.

Flight was @ 6.50 am, got to Terminal 2 @ 3.30, even at that point we had to queue on the air bridge connecting to Terminal 1. If people know Manchester Airport this is a very long bridge.

Anyway, it took us 2.5 hours to drop baggage and clear security. However, TUI delayed the flight by 2 hours due to people still doing bag drop. The boards at the airport showed boarding and final call, which resulted with lots of people behind us just clearing security running to the gate, only to be told the flight had been pushed back, hence lots of stressed people.

Talking to another passenger, they were apparently queuing in Terminal 1 at the other side of the air bridge for the flight, and got to the airport about 20 mins after us, and took nearly 3.5 hours to clear bag drop and security.

On the way back, our flight was delayed by 2 hours, the reason according to the pilot was late departure from Manchester in the morning due to late check in, so it sounds as if the same problem persisted a week later and was not a one off.

Manchester arrival a week later, a little better but still poor. We cleared passport control quickly no more than 5 mins, but had to wait an hour and 10 mins for the luggage to arrive.
Our flights were to Geneva, but with TUI all flights the same bag drops. I think the Jet 2 to Geneva roughly at the same time as our original outbound departed on time.
Based on the link above from @albob I'd get there as early as possible, just to reduce stress and maybe give yourself a fighting chance of some refreshment before the flight.

Manchester Airport is so painful compared to others, landed at Manchester a few weeks back and it took an hour to get through security at 11pm.

A few weeks later I went through Bristol similar arrival time and it took about 15 minutes from disembarking to leaving with my board bag.

Certainly from being there a few weeks ago - both when we departed and when we walked back through T2 the TUI queues seemed horrendous - add on the carnage that is Manchester security and its not a great experience. We flew Jet2 - got through check in in 15 mins but best part of 90 mins in security - flight delayed by over an hour to allow everyone to get on.

@Gaz_H, sounds like Jet2 to me. We flew out last Sunday. No issues. We arrived 31/2 hours before flight. Planning and prep!

The 3rd is the first Sunday of the School holidays so I'd have thought it'll be busy. Probably not as busy as the Saturday, when I'm traveling through...

Best of luck

@Gaz_H, I flew out yesterday with EasyJet, 20 mins from entering the arrivals hall to being accosted by the awful perfume sellers! No issues at all. Arrived 3 hours before flight, I’d much rather drink a coffee and relax than being stressed if things take time, see below.
Also flew out on Jan 16 to TRN with TUI, arrived 04.15 again 3 hours before, took about 30 mins to do the snaky que thing from being half full on arrival, by the time I was checked in the que was out the door to the walkway to T1.
Forewarned is for-armed.
Have a great trip.

@geoffknight, thanks.. agree, it's defo better to have a relaxed brew rather than a stressful run down the concourse!

I'm very fortunate being 20 mins from Manc and 30 mins from Liverpool... so the start is not too early

Bit of a live report… We’ve done this trip this morning.
Had 8.10am Tui flight from Manchester to Turin this morning. Arrived early at 5.00am following previous last few days’ reports. Queue for bag drop was pretty large so I guess a lot of people had the same idea. Took about 45mins to get through bag drop then into security. The queues at security were building but luckily we had fastrak and we were through in about 15 minutes Eh oh!
By the time we got to the gate there were announcements that passenger numbers were high in security and please can people have all the gels, liquids, electronics etc ready before bag search.
Hope that helps.
