Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Performance Boots - Wide Feet

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Did thread search - didn't see anything.

Any suggestions on performance boot models for wide feet? I ski moguls and prefer not to have my feet move around for quick response. A lot of the wide boots I've looked at appear to be beginners or for comfort, and my feet move around too much.

I currently have an old pair of Lange Super Blasters (forefoot width 102mm). I get the response, but it's super tight. Are there new boots that might be a better fit, or is a custom boot the way to go?

When you say you “ski moguls” what do you mean? Competitively?

Anyhoo, go see a decent boot fitter. Probably you’ll want a much slimmer last, opened out where needed.

Where you based?

As above. Wide forefront isn’t generally a huge problem as a decent boot fitter can widen the shell a little where necessary. Although that may not even be needed – I have a wide forefoot and always had problems with shoes being too narrow, but both pairs of heat moulded ski boots needed no further work in this area.

Dallas-based. Not a competitive skier.

Is there a boot model you suggest? I've heard opening up the shell with heat causes it to lose integrity but maybe that's twenty years ago.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Super Blaster were circa 2010. All the latest boots can be stretched/punched without issue. The quoted last widths are usually for a 26/26.5 shell so will get wider/narrower as you go up/down mondo size. Just go and see a good bootfitter.

@spyderjon, although, much (ski) boot fitting in Dallas do we think? Custom croc skin, rhinestone detailed cowboy boots? Probably one on every corner Laughing Laughing

Seriously tho', mockingbird, better question, where do you normally ski? might be a better ski-boot fitter round there?

St Bernard Sports have a good reputation on TGR and they do alignment and balancing work and AFAIK there's only CEM that offers that in the UK.

Colorado.

Yeah back in 2010-12, picked up some f17s with the super blasters.

Got some twisters. Now looking for some boots to put them to good use.

Previously hit up sun and ski sports. St Bernards a better rep?

Some manufacturers do different last widths in similar boots. I have hugely wide feet and ended up with Atomic Hawks Magna, same as normal hawks (fairly stiff performance feel) but wider last. I had to have them heat moulded and blown out to the max as well as I have stupidly wide feet. Like everyone else says, find a good fitter and listen to them.

Picked these up blind. I think they're 97 or 100 at the last in width. My super blasters we're 102 and they hurt.

The rs 130s feel good but, from experience, I suspect will hurt (a lot) after an hour. What's a good approach for stretching/widening at the boot fitter, in my case? Take them out 2mm at a time or just go to like 104mm in one go?

So you ask for advice and all the replies are to go see a good bootfitter - and then you buy blind! You're either a troll or an idiot or both.

Best bet is, see a bootfitter, and be prepared to shell out for an entirely different boot if those don't fit, and get properly fitted, pretty much like everyone said in the first place.
