Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Calf muscle tear

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Yesterday afternoon at the end of a glorious day in Zillertal Arena I experienced a sharp sudden pain in my right calf muscles while walking on my skis towards the bus stop.
Any effort to walk was painful and limited. I was further diagnosed with a mild (clinical diagnosis, hope it's correct) median gastrocnemius muscle tear. Some soft immobilising bandage and general recommendations.
Any personal experience regarding time to heal/to return skiing?
Right now I can hardly walk on that foot and it's quite swollen, understandable of course. My concern is with the EOSB in 6 weeks time, if I will be able to return to my 7 hours daily skiing Sad

drporat, Ouch, painful been there too - done both over the years and can still see the effects. First one had to take rest of the day off, skied the rest of the trip though - conditions too good to miss. However it did swell above boot top regularly.
2nd time on penultimate day so took the last day off, and went sight seeing instead Madeye-Smiley Both times I was back in the gym on return albeit doing light weights for a month or so.

SWMBO did hers one year and never skied for the 2nd week - she iced it regularly by the 3rd day could walk ok, by our return nearly back to normal.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Talk to a physio now.

I had a moderate tear a few years ago. Doctor in the resort forecast six weeks recovery. It was ok after six but I'm not sure I would want to have really pushed it.

I tore mine in Selva first week of February this year…iced, elevated and rested, two physio sessions when back home, lots of rehab with calf raises and stretches. Back skiing 2 weeks later…the physio said 18 days but I was ready to go day one with no problems. Hope it’s the same for you
