Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR Group trip to Wengen for 3 nights

Following some great advice from Snowheads our annual group trip (12) headed to Wengen this year. We weren’t sure how well it would work logistically (especially bearing in mind the airports involved) but it was a great success. Details below in case anyone else is considering the same:
Dates: Wed 24th Jan- Sat 27th Jan
Times: Out 10.30- back 20.35
Flights: EasyJet Bristol- Geneva.
Transfer: minibus recommended by hotel, approx £1100 rtn). 2 of the group went a day early and travelled by train.
It only took 2.20 hrs+ the 15 minute train up from Lauterbrunnen. The 2 on the train took nearer to 4 hours but said it was a smooth and enjoyable trip with 3 changes.
Hotel: Arenas Lauberhorn . A very good quality place for a 3 star. It worked out affordable due to us sharing 5 person rooms. This didn’t prove as cramped as we feared. They had mezzanine floors and we were able to ration bathroom use and use hotel’s facilities and spa area to augment.
Half board was great value and of a reasonable standard. The Spa area was fantastic with great pool and out door hot tub.
The bar even provided free entertainment (live music night and magician).
Best of all was its location. Next to train station one side, Cable car over the road the other. Great ski hire next door (skiset) and numerous bars within 50 yards. Nightlife was busier early evening than late but we found some great atmosphere on Friday night:- IceBar, Tanne Bar and club under the Silberhorn(?)
Skiing: the Jungfrau region is well described on this site. As a group of good/ intermediate skiers it suited our needs perfectly. The loop from Mannlichen around to Kleine Scheidegg and back to the village via the WC run was great for the first day with loads of reds and spectacular views of the Eigar.
On the second day we headed down and across the valley to Murren and lunch on Piz Gloria. This was as much of a travelling day as a skiing one for some. With 3-4 cable cars taken. We weren’t helped by long queues due to inferno race contestants waiting to practice on the course before race day the following day.
The weather also closed in for the pm so our views from the Schilthorn were decidedly white. However the restaurant with its Bond theme is a great experience in it itself and the run down from the top was challenging in near white out conditions. But still an enjoyable day all round.
The final day (until pick up at 3) was spent locally but we still managed 40kms cruising down to Grindelwald a couple of times. Being a Saturday the queues were noticeably longer so we mainly skied away from crowds as best we could. The snow held up well despite high temperatures and the rain at village level the previous evening had formed a bit of power for some reasonable tracks first thing off the side at Mannlichen.
One final mention is that one of the early arrivals fractured his ankle on his first day, before we had even turned up! Everything from the helicopter ride off the slopes to the fracture clinic in Interlaken was very efficient and he was able to return with us on the same flight on Saturday with minimum of fuss, apart from a few hours in the phone to his insurance company.

In conclusion, a short break to Wengen is not only possible but extremely worthwhile. Costs aren’t as high as feared ( food and drink comparable to Austria and nothing like the car crash of Verbier), transfer is doable and the treat of an amazing scenic, historic area makes any slight inconveniences insignificant.

Thanks for your comments @telford_mike, @Rogerdodger,
It was a great trip (always is with this group) and I loved the old school sense of tradition and history all around. Will definitely try to come back at some point with the Mrs. She would love it too.
Thanks again as well for your advice in the Jungfrau thread previously.
