This year is going to be mud-hopping I think. But we have had such a history of late dumps just as the lift systems are closing and the lifties are going off to be carpenters, deck-hands on racing yachts, alpine guides and everything else…I do hope that we’ll see some last minute cover. We had a ball in 2019 - empty pistes and late falls….great times on the hill and then playing crazy golf in the village in ski gear….and pétanque in the evening with a beer….salad days…

I remember the year when Easter was this late, we did very late last run down, dodging the puddles, lots of stop-start snow, and as we sat in the car putting our seatbelts on, all the lights on the big pistemap in the car park went off. Click! End of season…

One end of season feature in Saisies was that the magnificent "chocolaterie" sold off their remaining stock at half price. Which made it merely expensive..... It's a sunny day here on the south coast today - spring is in the air, and I can almost smell that mix of snow and mud and trampled vegetation - puddles of melting snow were surrounded by early crocii. Cries out for a cold beer.

Family bash, Easter 2019 was really cold, pistes staying frozen all day, even some quite light powder near the top.

Of course it will be a great end of April May ski touring season as we've booked four weeks in Spain from May 7th and the reason I'm sitting on a ferry going back to the UK for four days to get my summer tyres and kitesurfing gear as original plan of Portsmouth Bilbao Santander backfired as no space for dogs left!
Plus there's not going to be too much left to ski on judging by the forecast for the next couple of weeks!

Went to Montgenevre wc6th April 2019 and there was a huge snow fall just before and further top ups all week. The local taxi driver said we had the best week of the season.
Not going to Montgenevre this time but hoping for a snowy April.

@under a new name, Mainly because of the record high temperatures, successive periods of stationary high pressure, lows tracking more northerly than normal, and a dearth of snow cover at low altitude. And rain. And 150 cm of summit depth rather than the more usual 250cm, 10cm base depth rather than 40cm. Apart from that...all set fair for a great season....
