Hi everyone.
Am trying to get sorted with a reasonably priced trip ex Ireland for hubby, me and 3 kids under 10. Will go with Crystal as it's just less complicated. Adults boostered, kids won't be vaxxed at time of travel
Austria is my preference but seems very dear this year. Italy kids need to be tested. So thinking France but haven't been there skiing since pre kids. There's a cheapish deal in belle Plagne but will there be snow?? (I know don't kill me! My brain is fried trying to figure it out).
Also flight is to Geneva. Anyone know if we are bound by French or Swiss rules there?
Lastly himself doesn't ski. Will he go nuts in BP?
Thanks everyone. Appreciate this is prob a tedious post for many.

March 19th should be pretty much peak snow depth. If there is no snow in Belle Plagne at that time of the season then I think we should all give up skiing.
What does "himself" do? The bobseligh track is open until the start of April. Though ice climbing is advertised in La Plagne, the tower is in Champagny which is hard to get to from Belle Plagne without skis. There is the usual array of non skiing winter activities such as snow shoeing, swimming pool etc.
I went to La Rosiere a few weeks ago via Geneva. I think all you have to do is fill in the correct paperwork. It was no problem.

It's not the best place for a non-skier... Tell him to bring the laptop and he can WFH from your accomodation

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Fair play to you both. Thank you very much!!
Himself likes walking, reading, coffee and beer. So on mature reflection he will be fine. The Austrian village atmosphere suits him perfectly and I know that can be missing in the more purpose built places but like... Something is going to have to give

There are a couple of ok bars in BP….but really not a lot else! In fact, just tell him to go to La Tête Inn….it’s a riot

I reckon that you (he!) could walk to Plan Bois above Les Coches, or round to Montalbert and meet you for lunch and then walk back again. That's what I would be doing if I didn't ski...... or I'd just learn to ski - it's really good fun!

There must be walks! Surely all ski resorts have walks?

Himself can use the shuttle buses and visit the other villages plus theres a few pedestrian lifts that he can use as well.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I've been to Belle Plagne at that time of year, in a poor snow year and during a week of very high temperatures. Pistes were very slushy in places, including on the west facing glacier. However, there was generally decent cover and most runs were open, including the main runs down to Montchavin / Montalbert. I'd have no issue doing the same again.
Public transport is really good between the higher mini-resorts for non skiers. But they might need a lift pass for the gondola down to Plagne Bellecote?

If you can get him into skiing he sounds just like myself. A dream catch if I do say so. I’m sure he’ll be fine in Belle Plagne. Being surrounded by a snowscape does wonders for mood, skier or not.

You know it makes sense.

Thanks a million everyone. You won't believe it... Went back to book and its gone! No other Plagne option available in our budget so off for more research. Its driving me nuts at this stage

I like La Plagne - but not for a complete non-skier.
+1 thinks he has had a lucky escape as there are many places with a bit better pedestrian access
La Rosiere or Valmorel maybe - cozier villages, more walks, more easy to reach coffee and beer shops and the chances to meet him for lunch are higher.....but there are many other options that would fit that village feel....even courchevel 1650 or meribel
Then there is always Austria

I think I’d echo that view I’ve skied in belle plagne in April and snow cover was fine (one year best conditions ive skied in though riding a sit ski so couldn’t range as far as I would have liked ). However. It a great option for a non skier but I take that. Kew on most French high altitude ski resorts. That said even in a lower prettier village how much more is there to do.
