I have an Ortovox shovel (plastic red) and would like to replace just the shovel bit as the handle is fine. Can you just buy a new shovel ?
thanks

@david n, I'm sure others will be along to say the same. Even if you can get a replacement blade, bin the plastic shovel, or use it for something non-avalanche related. I assume the blade is being replaced because it is broken, cracked or otherwise unusable.
Ortovox no longer sell plastic shovels, neither to any of the other major providers of rescue equipment.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I find good avi shovels aren't expensive for what they are IMO. I suspect even if you could get a new plastic blade only it wouldn't be that much cheaper than getting a good ally one.

As I said in that thread, the time spent digging is a lot longer than the time spent searching with transceiver, yet people seem to devote most of their cost/time/practice efforts to the latter not the former. Buy the best shovel you can afford, then give it to your mate.
