Hi all, we are spending a week in the Zillertal at the end of March. We have another 3-4 days we could tag on but have not booked accommodation. I had planned to drive over to Selva for the last few days before flying back from INN. We could do 3-4 nights so a good 3 days skiing possibly 4 if we plan it right.
If the Dolomites get a late storm we will take a punt and go there as I haven’t skied there before but it is already looking a bit green in valley floor and lack of snow this season doesn’t fill me with confidence for late season.
Question for you all. I am not tied to Italy but would like to try a new area. Lots in Austria I haven’t skied. Any ideas here for somewhere with reasonable snow sure slopes we could drive to from the Zillertal but not more than 2 hours from INN? Not the Arlberg as we have skied there a few times. We are all capable skiers and would prefer some challenging on piste skiing.

Kitz? Or maybe stay the Kirchberg side

The obvious answer is the Arlberg, not much else matches up even for piste skiing. Otherwise Ischgl, Serfaus, Kuhtai, I personally dont like Sölden (scruffy place with a busy road through the middle!) but havent skied there so maybe worth a go. If you are happy to wait to see the state of play with the snow then Kitzbühel or Saalbach (both easier to get to via Gerlos from Mayrhofen). Also that way is the smallish but fairly high Widkögel area.
If none of those appeal, sure can come up with some more

Soelden ski area is excellent - sizeable and snow sure, with a glacier. A great range of accommodation too. I have no issues with the town. Yes, it's a big place, with a road through, but I certainly wouldn't call it scruffy. If you're happy to buy day passes, you could also ski at Obergurgl and Hochoetz.
Alternatively, you could base yourself around Landeck and ski the small but excellent (and very quiet) areas of See and Kappl (both have big verticals and good lifts), as well as skiing Ischgl. Galtuer - just up the road from Ischgl - is worth a look too.

Solden I have been to a couple of times but it’s worth considering. I also like Kappl and have spent a day at Ischgl but never made it to Galtuer. So worth a think too.
Is Serfaus a a good base for that area? Or Fiss better?

@Matrix, Wondering where you stayed before @Arlberg.
If you stayed in St.Anton, a stay in Lech would be a completely new experience. If only to get on Rüfikopf early morning (best views are in morning; and it really is a special view). And Lech at night is sooo dreamy. And direct acces to the north facing pistes of Warth.
But also the other way around of course
Saalbach: too low, too much southfacing for end of March. Kitzbühel/Kirchberg, idem, too low.
Likewise in Dolomites; easily too warm already

On other trips, we also skied Serfaus and Fiss from our Landeck digs. As well as Kaunertal Glacier and Kuhtai. I think anywhere in that neck of the woods gives you a good choice of places to ski if you have a car.

@Langerzug, we have stayed in St Anton and out near Klosterle. The latter having a car which we preferred. I don’t know Lech except for seeing the champagne bars which isn’t really our thing. Any tips?

@hobbiteater, we have been a lot 3+ times a season for the last 5 years so just fancied a change I agree you could spend a lifetime in the area and not get bored.

You need to dig a little deeper beyond the surface. Majority of Lech guests are serious skiers.
Lech is the better side of Arlberg.
