Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

3 days, first week of April, Milan flights - which resort?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Limited to 3 days, Milan flights. Have been to Cervinia before so that's always an options but any other resorts with investigating (within say 2.5hrs of Milan) ? Have been looking at various sites and apparently snow depends on direction of slopes but just wanting relatively snow sure resort, nice hotel, everything close.

Many thanks

Courmayeur is a nice little resort, similar distance. Was going to suggest Passo Tonale but that's about 3 hours from malpensa - less fom linate

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

depends which airport but Madonna di Campiglio is easy from Bergamo and anywhere in the Aosta valley from Malpensa (Linate is in between the two so maybe not a good choice)

@Newbie72, La Thuile and Pila are more north facing so will be better at that time unless they have a big dump just before you go. Courmayuer is a lovely town to stay in with nice hotels, from good value to flipping expensive. The Bouton D’or is a nice BB hotel allowing you to eat out in town at night. Use Courmayuer as a base, it’s only a 15 min drive to La Thuile, and approx 30 mins to Pila, don’t forget the 20 min gondola though. We stay in Courmayuer and do days in all three over the week. It’s about 2 hrs from MXP, motorway until the last mile.

I was going to say that Bergamo would be a long way from Val d'Aosta but Malpensa is so far north west of Milan that driving time towards the Val d'Aosta is theoretically only 20 minutes less than from Bergamo.
From La Thuile there's also access to La Rosiere, which according to a French TV report several years ago, had at the time, the best snow in France.

From Bergamo then definitely consider Madonna di Campiglio or the lift-linked Folgarida / Marilleva area (slightly cheaper and I think easier to get to) or carry on up the valley to Passo Tonale (or even go round the other way along Lago di Iseo, stunning drive) to Passo Tonale

I had the same considerations.

Ended up booking Monterosa ski area, staying in Champoluc. But for a few euros extra we can drive to many of the resorts mentioned and I'd quite like a day in Courmayuer.

This was just a simple google search, which ski areas near Milan. I'd never heard of it, but reports were good and makes it all the more of an adventure.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

It's a long drive from Champoluc to Courmayeur and back for a day's skiing!! Confused

 You know it makes sense.

Maybe I will pass on that then, it looks like there is enough to ski where we are.

Monterosa was my favourite of the resorts visited in a week based Aosta back in Feb 2020.

2nd the above re courmayer, it was just under an hour's drive from Aosta to Champoluc, and 40 minute Aosta to Courmayer! Pila @ Aosta is within range, but if just 3 days i'd be tempted to saty at Monterosa if the weather and snow are good, its simply stunning and plenty high for late season
