Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Wengen - idea of prices

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all, we are a large group of skiers (18 for 2023). A lot of the gang are very keen to ski in Wengen, unfortunately the Ski Miquel chalet nearby can only take 12 people from Gatwick, which makes it a no go (we are in Norfolk and travel to the airport together on a coach).

I believe this would be the only chalet board hotel in the area, where you get wine included, cakes and tea after ski time etc. So, if we were to find a half board chalet in Wengen itself, what sort of prices would we expect to pay for wine with dinner, pink of beet or tap water etc? Also tea/coffee or Gluwhein on the mountain. Anyone got any recent experience? The thought of having to buy drinks on top of prices has always scared me with Switzerland!

Luckily I have officially retired as the holiday planner this year, but just wanted this info for my own benefit really. We are looking at lots of resort options as well as this.

Many Thanks Very Happy

Glass of wine CHF6 or thereabouts, bottle 25 upwards. Tea / coffee about 4.50, glühwein 6ish. Large beer 6 or 7, tap water often free as long as you’re having something else with it, otherwise maybe 2 francs. It's no more expensive than the big French places.

Edited to add, here's a typical drinks menu https://www.silberhorn.ch/download/pictures/67/eian6qy79f48mhib88t2b0mjntkbki/silberhorn-stube_wein-getraenke_karte_sommersaison_2021.pdf

I really like the Arenas Resort Victoria when we were in Wengen. Breakfast was superb, pool & spa were lovely. Rooms comfortable and simple. Great views! 2minutes from the train and a few minutes to the big cable car.

Thanks both, the menu is very helpful, and the Victoria looks so pretty! I'll pass all the info to the lucky new organiser.

I dont know wherther they still do any half board deals but I used to love, and go go regularly once or twice a season, the Silberhorn at Lauterbrunnen - more daily travel but better placed for Muerren.

I was hoping to go back this year, after a long gap waiting for some decent lifts on the Grindelwald side to Mannlichenn and Eigergletscher which have finally arrived, but the change in entry requirements to Switzerland was too late.

@micheleperry, just a thought...Ski Miquel can only do 12 from Gatwick into chalet Rosa.Is it possible to arrange independent flights for the rest of the group, timed similarly to the SM flight.
Chalet Rosa capacity around 28 or 30. If the chalet isn't big enough the "overflow" could go to the Silberhorn, the Premier hotel in Lauterbrunnen.
Sorry if the second reference to Silberhorn is confusing, yes there's one in Wengen (Mike's drinks card) there is one down here in Lauterbrunnen. Ps it's pole position for the station and the cable car for the Mürren side. Throw it into the mix......

@Rogerdodger - we asked about this for the year we couldn't go (2021), and Miquel have to book and pay for the Manchester and Gatwick flights each week, so we would have to add the 6 extra flights on top of the total holiday price, were also worries about the risk of those flights being changed/cancelled and not the extra ones. It's all fun and games!

Thanks Roger Dodger. I put Lauterbrunnen but should have emphasised not Wengen. Albeit the Wengen one gets great reviews but is probably dearer
