Poster: A snowHead

Off to Avoriaz at half term with friends and their two young children. Six days ski school booked ages ago with no issues but couldn't get 6 day Avoriaz kift passes, which we put down to it being pre-season and them only selling the discounted PdS pass offer. Time rolls by and still can't buy them online so email EFS to check which passes we need...to, eventually, be told "you need the Avoriaz pass...but you can only buy them for 5hrs to 2 days online. For 6 days you need to go to the lift pass office with your ski school booking form."!
So now it's buying either 1 or 2 day passes online, hoping they arrive in the next 7 days so we aren't panicing about getting to the lift pass office before they close Saturday/stood in the queue when they open Sunday morning. Or buying 6 day full PdS passes for children who are unlikely to be about to get out of the Avoriaz are (1x first week, 1x second week).
Doesn't exactly encourage my friends to want to come back!

Where are you staying? If it’s any help, there’s a ticket machine in the Crozats apartments foyer (that anyone can wander in and use, as far as I could see) - I wandered up to it and bought my passes Sunday morning at 9ish with no-one in front of me - skiing past the ticket office 20 mins later, and there must have have been a queue of 40 people ….
If it’s any use, tell me exactly what they want, and I can double check it would issue them, but as far as I could tell it does all the options.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Mjit, have you thought about just emailing the lift pass company?
Send them a copy of your ski school booking, let them know what you're after. Might be able to sort you out that way then instead of queueing in person when you get there.

We're down in Hauts-Forts so not far from the Prodains upper lift pass office. We're also aware just how much cat hurding is involved getting the ankle-biters out of bed, fed, ready to ski and to the ski school meet point on time on the first day without adding more stress!
Just baffled why you can only by 5 hr/1 day/2 day Avoriaz passes online.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I had a quick look at that machine on the way back from the sauna - it seems it has the same limitations (5hr 1,2 day, (or 6 day after April 6th) for an Avoriaz-only pass).
Plus not much use in your location, regardless - but hopefully useful info for some future search.

I found this 2 years ago when I wanted 4 days in Av, Morzine, Les Gets. The choices they offered seemed odd. Finally bought a PDS pass for that long. Seemed a bit of a waste though.

@Orange200, Yep, I'm not sure if there's a discount for longer passes at the office when you present evidence of ski school but 3x 2-day passes work out at €186 while a 6-day PdS pass is only €208...or €188 if we'd know about this hastle and bought them with the 10% earky ird discount (assuming that wasn't adults only).
Meh, first world problem and not my kids so someone else's first world problem

@Orange200, there is no Morz, Les Gets and Avoriaz pass unless you're a resident/ season worker - got to shell out for PdS or pick and choose daily. Very, very annoying. Blame Chatel apparently.

@Nadenoodlee, Does the MoLGAv pass still exist even for locals?
I thought that local's passes were no more, and the same offers had to be available to everyone.
Can't see what Chatel would have to complain about as they have the Espace Liberty pass which is a multi-resort (yet not full PdS pass)
Now that the Swiss companies have all merged they do a Swiss side only pass from CLCM, so there is precedent.
If you want to chop and change between resorts, you either just have to go PdS and forget about it, or get the local ones as you go along.
Getting the local ones on a pay-as-you-play basis is not a massive faff as once you have the magnetic card, you can buy your day-pass in a few clicks while you have your breakfast as the SERMA site is much better now.

@WindOfChange, PNGA (no idea what that stands for) is almost mythical. Some people get it, some get rejected, no one will officially state it exists - its a circus! But it has been issued this season to workers with contracts and full time residents who are on the Mairies tax list.

Chatel & Les Gets are great mates. They get stroppy about revenue share from passes being heavy on Avoriaz then Morzine. A Morzine/Av pass would see them miss out further so they block it.
