Good luck the groms.
Are freeride events worth going to watch in person? Do you actually get to see much? We have a leg of the FWT nearby. I just can’t work out if I’d just rather go skiing!

If you can ski by at the right time its worth taking 30 mins out to watch the action. Plus there will be a bit of hoopla somewhere nearby in tour village with merch and possible some sponsor swag. Useful to take binocs if you have them.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you mean the proper FWT main event I'd say absolutely worth watching, they are the top skiers in the world. I thought that they try to use faces that are easily viewable to the public as they want a crowd. IME you've been able to see pretty much everything (ozone face at kicking horse and truth and dare face at kicking horse).
If you mean fwt qualifiers I'd say 2* events can be a bit hit and miss, 4* events are usually good. Best bang for your buck is always men's ski, they go biggest and ski the best lines, so if you are just going to watch 30mins try get there during that session. Is it worth watching the qualifiers? Depends - if I only skied 1 week a year I probably would just watch a run or 2 or even skip it completely if it was a powder day. If you are doing a season, conditions aren't particularly special and it's a nice warm day it becomes a lot more appealing to watch a fair bit.

@hammerite, no worries. The Verbier event is fab! Which one are you close to?
Kids loved the experience!

Great Stuff! We are friends with the Smiths - you probably know Luke Smith, who got to second in the WFT - there’s a story about why he wasn’t first in the world....
Have a fantastic day....

Based on yesterday's comp you would be insane to miss ski men even if it's half as good. The video is up on YouTube now, lots of insane runs.

My God Bob - just having a cup of coffee and watched the video - those conditions were brutal. That was more like a survival competition than a Freeride event...my knees were hurting just watching it. Frozen chop, death balls and massive corrugations and pretty much skied out. Brave things....

I got the dates wrong. FWT is advertised for all week. So looks like the actual competition is a week on Saturday.

It’s announced for this weekend. Not confirmed yet if Saturday or Sunday https://www.freerideworldtour.com/news/are-you-ready-ordino-arcalis

@BobinCH, doh, yeah I took my eye off the ball there. I was on a lift in the Grandvalira when I looked for an update and saw the scores going on the scoreboard. I’d have struggled to make Sunday anyway as I had a few beers on Saturday evening.
