Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bardonecchia or Sestriere in March?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Bardonecchia, 2nd week of March around 10th - 15th. Wanted to ask if anyone has been around this time before and if there's likely to be sufficient snow cover at this time? Is it likely that most runs would be open? Or would Sestriere be a better idea?

Would appreciate any insight or advice.

Many thanks

I went to Bardo in 1st week March back in 2019. Snow was poor and the runs into the town were slushy and as I recall some were closed. Best bet was getting the bus over to the Jafferau area but even there could not ski down to the base of the gondola. Nice town and the food in the Cia Fiore hotel was amazing but I would not go back.

If the snow is bad you can drive through the Frejus tunnel and be at the new Orelle cable car in about 30 minutes which now takes you all the way to the top of Cime Caron above Val Thorens in 20 mins. Obviously this is an expensive option as the tunnel costs almost as much as the lift pass, but VT is the most snow sure place around.
Having said that, we had a fantastic day skiing Jaffereau about a week before Christmas. Sauze d'Oulx is only a 20 minute drive away too, though I think haven't had much snow for a few weeks now.

We've had knee deep powder one year or rock solid pistes the next, both in mid March.....it's the luck of the draw! Most pistes were open both times but one was more fun than the other!
