Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zermatt - staying up the mountain e.g. Hotel Schwarzsee

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - some friends and I planning an early April trip.
Checked Zermatt on booking.com and v surprised to find somewhere affordable!
It's a place called Hotel Schwarzsee and it's at 2,500m in the ski area.
We'd be there for three nights. Wondered if anyone's ever stayed there or similar?
Trying to find out if it's possible to head into the town in the evenings or if all the lifts shut early.
Wouldn't mind mainly being based in the hotel but be nice to spend a bit of time down in the town.
Thanks.

We skied past there a few times in January and it's in a stunning spot, up the mountain. Once the lifts close, however, that's it. Just you and the mountains! (Or Neil and the neige wink )

That's the sort of place we love - but understand that it may not be everybody's cup of tea...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've not stayed there, but I'm pretty sure the Schwarzsee is only accessible by lift during normal lift opening times, so once the lifts shut you're stuck there (unless you've got touring kit and are quite keen). This is different from Gornergrat (and Riffelalp) which are served by rail, which I think runs into early evening
