Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austria trip report 15-22.1

I'll focus on the Covid side of things, group of three adults all with 3 shots. Flights to Munchen. Bear in mind that some variance is expected between different persons on duty.
Lufthansa - didn't let us complete the on line check in. At the airport had no trouble. We had the German PLF completed but not asked to show after telling that we're Austria bound.
Munchen border control - first question "where to?" again, after saying Austria the check was cursory, I showed a printed form with the vaccine dates from a distance. No PLF demanded. I guess 90 seconds to pass. The people saying they were staying in Germany were getting much closer checks. No scanning of apps, barcodes etc
Arrived at the hotel, immediately as we entered, the clerk came out with a scanner and demanded our proof of vaccination. Much stricter. One of our group had purchased the ski pass from the hotel, he had to scan his pass and his proof of vaccination on a special kiosk before using it. Buying at the counter, one has had his app scanned and the other only a visual check, but they had a good look at the dates and the passport. Places on the mountain, shops, all checked for the vaccinations at entrance (or just after sitting down inside). Outside, some had some check-in procedure. Masks on lifts were closely monitored, even on the t-bars in Kaprun. My overall feeling was that the inconvenience was minimal and everything went smoothly

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We've just had the same on our two week Tirol road trip Listening.

Easy entry to Austria at Innsbruck Airport then strict checking of covid passes for accommodation check in, mountain restaurants, resort restaurants and cafes and 99% compliance with mask wearing on lifts. Lift staff in some locations were cracking down on buff wearing and enforcing the FP2 mask requirements.

All quite reassuring, although two weeks of masks on and off 20 times a day became a bit wearing. Need to put it into perspective though - all a bit better than last winter eh? wink

But where I feel it all comes unstuck is in packed gondolas and cable cars. Not to mention ski buses, which we didn’t use. Especially with Omicron case numbers increasing rapidly during our stay. We had two separate instances in full gondolas of Russia and the Netherlands' answer to Brian Blessed - masks down and shouting at their mates Confused Not to mention Innsbruck Airport on the way home. It was like a zoo. Jam packed, queues everywhere and zero social distancing.

Still, we've tested negative on our day 2 lateral flow tests so (fingers crossed), all is well.

How do you wear a mask with a helmet on?

@DHosking, either attach it to your ears like normal, or attach it to your helmet using something like buttons attached to the helmet.

@mountainaddict, what sort of time did you need to allow at Innsbruck Airport on the way back?

@DHosking, there are a few threads on this topic. Most people do one of 2 things: either use a mask that goes round the back of your head (most masks sold in supermarkets have a plastic thingy to connect the ear loops) or attach a button on the helmet strap to hold the mask (special made attachments are sold in ski shops for 5-10 euro)
