Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ischgl-recommendations

Guys I’m thinking about a boys (well middle aged 40-50 y/os guys!) trip to ischgl in March. Anyone have recommendations for accommodation? Hotel or apartment although would prefer half board for ease. Close to or on piste. Never been so any insights welcomed! R

@riman8, We stayed SC across the main road and up the hill but there are loads of bnbs and posh hotels on the "right side" of town. Name of where we stayed escapes me for the moment, soz.
Just to say that we had a great time in Ischgl. Great skiing and great apres.

Goldener Adler on Kirchenweg is my favorite. Close to the village tunnel for easy access to Fimba and Padatschgrat lifts, ski back to close to the tunnel middle lift. The owner Hermine is very friendly with great food, wine, and Wellness suite.

I wouldn't worry too much about being close to/on one of the home runs and focus more on being close to a gondola station, ideally on the 'left hand side' of town as you look at the piste map. The home runs are reds and in a lot of conditions very red, often being big mogal fields of fallen skiers at the top/sheet ice covered in fallen skiers at the bottom. If you're a good skier it's fine...but often just more enjoyable to bubble down.

Ischgl has 3 gondolas to get you up and down the mountain, 2 in the left hand end of town, the third more in the middle l, so the middle one tends to get everyone from the right hand end of town and so can get queues at peak morning times - plus it can mean a longer hotel/gondola walk.

Once in town the extended family that own the town have deliberately kept it small so walking anywhere is seldom a long way, and also generally flat, with a tunnel/lifts or escalators to help get you up and down the couple of hills.

As with most of Austria the main one to check everyone OK with/tell them to MTFU about are the Austrian twin beds.

I think you will need to search for what you can get for your group size and then look at what options you have for location.
If you are doing a DIY trip you have more options but there is not many choices via TOs left for March. (I didn't look very hard though as we are already sorted Very Happy )
Anywhere near the Dorf tunnel or it's mid point elevator would be good though I have not had much of a wait for any of the lifts in the mornings in March.
It's not going to be cheep whatever you find rolling eyes but one of my favorit places for March.

Some good info here, but as above, you might need to take what you can get for your group rather than being picky. Ischgl gets booked up quickly with returning visitors, so there may not be a lot of choice.

YMMV, but I haven't seen any “Austrian twin” beds for a while. I have seen variable set ups where the beds can be a double or twin as required, just make sure to book a twin.

Hotel Fimba just over the Dorf tunnel, and with lift just outside to take you directly to the middle of the tunnel.

Hotel Madlein for halfboard - Food is great at that hotel.

Currently staying at the Jaegerhof. Very nice. Great food and wellness. Just a bit bingenen bongenen plinkinon plonkinon as just above the church with rooms level with the bell tower if that bothers you.

Basically above the middle of the Dorf tunnel so elevator then travelator to pitch you out at the Fimbabahn lift station ( currently being massively redeveloped).

If you're looking at a package Inghams/Iglu offer the Val Sinestra. Only B&B but that's all we were looking for (loads or restaurants in town and we prefer to eat out/try different places) and used it 5 or 6 times. Rooms are big, generally Austrian twin + single but location is great, a 5 minute walk to the Dorft tunnel lift opposite the Jaegerhof in the morning and 10 metre walk from one of the home runs to the boot room, plus while minutes from all the bars/restaurants on the main strip you're also set back and above things so even with the windows open you can hear very little noise outside at night (not that there really is much). And to top it off it's one of the cheapest places we've found actually IN Ischgl for a package trip.

Hotel solaria is great. My personal favourite is the Trofana Royal (stayed there a few times). Happy to help if required.

+1 for Jaegerhof we have been a few times and are heading back this winter. Bit unlikely you will get rooms by this point though.

A little bit off-topic, but I have been coming in Ischgl for +20 years, at least once a year and often multiple times. I have not seen any UK skiers there until maybe 3 years ago - What happened? UK TO`s just discovered Ischgl?

We first went about 15 years ago via TO
I would agree it is more on the radar than it used to be.

Ischgl has been available in tour operators brochures for a long time. I went there in 1998 with a uk tour operator. That was before stuff was on the internet so there wasn't a lot of other ways to book back then. In fact that was the last time I used a TO. There wasn't a lot of UK folks there back then. I remember a lot of bars with giant Dutch and German people in them and feeling very small !

I've not been back to Ischgl since then but keep on planning to visit again as it was a great place, though I find it hard to tear myself away from St Anton these days.

Hotel Talblick up on the hill (Vergrossweg / Platt). The free ski bus stops outside and taxis after apres are about €20 for a mini bus that will fit you all.

It’s a brilliant spot that offers B&B (delicious breakfast) and a great evening menu too.

Enjoy! Been going to Ischgl for about 20 years and to Talblick for about 15 and it’s never disappointed.

Jagerhof is a very good hotel and it’s just across the street from a lift that takes you down into the tunnel where you’re transported to the gondolas. You can ski back to within about 100m at the end of the day.

We have a boys trip next year in Jan and paid about £1440 with Crystal HB (flights from Edinburgh) for hotel Ischgl, it seemed to be about the cheapest option.

Lift passes were 2 for 1 at the time and think that's the Inc price.

Another option is this place, we also did a boys trip there about 10 years ago, close to the Jagerhof and the lift.

Went to Ischgl 2 years ago having not been for 15 years.

Stayed at Hotel Fliana which was nice with pool and Jacuzzi on the roof. Food was also nice.

On the 2 nights we stayed out for Apres- no later than 9.30pm!, found the local police/ private security were overly strict and we said we would never return!

I went to Ischgl in 2022 to join my Dad and his friends. They stayed at the Jagerhof as part of a package deal, which included the evening meals (which I joined them for). It looked very nice, great location, at the end of one of the runs into town, directly opposite the lift that takes you down to the tunnel with its travellators to a couple of the gondolas/lifts.

I booked a DIY trip and stayed here - Hotel Val Sinestra http://www.val-sinestra.at/ . Its just up the road and directly on the slope down into town, but with quite a dangerous road crossing that’s steep and icy, so I only did this once! The hotel and breakfast are basic and little English is spoken but the owner was very friendly. The place was clean and comfortable enough, easy access to the boot room etc. It also has great views from the rooms as for some reason at this point, there aren't any other buildings next door or in front. They don't do evening meals though so not great for your half board preference, but the room cost was one of the cheapest in town and I thought a bit of a bargain so other readers might be interested.

Yep, we normally stayed in the Val Sinestra but then weren't looking for evening meals as, much like apres ski bars there's more restaurants than days in the week in Ischgl. Thankfully that road doesn't really go anywhere with just a handful of properties past the piste crossing, though the last drop to the road does tend to be a narrow, cut up, either icy or slushy half pipe where it's best to make sure the person in front is clear before setting off Smile And if you don't like it you can always take the Jagerhof home run route and walk and walk 150m back to the Sinestra rather than 60m down.

Other than looking a little dated and not having kettles in the rooms we've never found anything wrong with the Sinestra - and nothing like getting back, cracking a beer on the balcony and look down on people stacking it in front of you Smile
