Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Praz de lys - chalet or hotel recommendations?

Hi there,

I’m drawing a bit of a blank when it comes to finding a place in Praz de Lys to book, it’s not on any tour operators sites, booking.com and the like is pants.

Can anyone recommend a place they have stayed and how they booked?

You could extend your search and stay in Mieussy (or even Tanninges) and simply take the bus to either Praz de Lys or Sommand.

What I love about Praz is the view!

Not aware of any significant hotel presence there and many chalet have rental details on posts outside property when you walk around. Search where the chalet is on a map as the domain can cover down to Tananges a few miles away.

We've not stayed but visited many times and really like it there. Most places are ski in/out with drag lift connections collecting up the locations on outer edges, so it's all pretty convenient to rent something anywhere in the ski area.

We used to visit Praz de Lys a lot when we lived in Les Gets, quite often bought season passes there for the winter, and when we had grand children in semi-residence (DIL’s maternity leave miraculously seemed to happen during the winter) we used to base ourselves for a morning or day at La Grande Ourse which is a restaurant right on the piste at the top of two or three drag lifts so good for the learning children. I rode over the Ramaz one summer and PdL was an utter ghost town. Yet a few miles away the likes of Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz and Samoens were all busy.

I think Peak Retreats go here, they have some SC apartments that look convenient, if basic. Not been there yet but have considering it.

P&V has a place on the Praz de Lys side. Cheap, but looks basic. I usually go to PDL once a year and get an Airbnb in Mieussy. Quick drive up to the Sommand side each morning.

We stayed in the Chalet Hotel Vaccapark in the summer one year for the night. It was a lovely hotel, but not really in the centre of Praz de Lys but in the ski area. Lovely food and had a pool.
