Not sure at the moment as it's a shifting playingfield, but in the summer/autumn we entered Holland from Hull (after testing) then drove down to France. Early summer 2021 this wasn't possible as P&O were not allowing boarding.
We transited Belgium, Lux, CH too and just carried the relevant docs saying transit was ok, never needed them though.
You need an attestation to enter France atm though, and without one you are breaking the law. My wife told me a chap in a UK car was stopped at a border, turned around, not fined, but had passport stamped 'no entry to France for 5 years'! Facebook though, so could be bollox.

It appears you can transit by car if you are in the country for less than 12 hours.

I thought the Netherlands were currently in lockdown? I was start to get worried as we're hoping to go to Austria and get the night train. So Eurostar to Amsterdam and then sleeper to Innsbruck. The transit rules are so confusing, I find. @nevis1003, where did you find the 12 hour thing please? Does anyone know if it applies to other modes of transport?

Ok, well yes, done it 3 times since Covid, each time the requirements have been slightly different. Currently pretty easy, may well do it in Feb if France eases up.

You can transit Belgium if in the country for less than 48 hours without quarantine currently. I’m sussing out Eurostar to Brussels and train to Austria as we avoid flying as bad for the climate. The Belgian websites in English are a poor translation of the French and the Eurostar one is very confusing.
I’m sussing out alternatives if France doesn’t reopen its borders.

Well sfaik the 12hr thing applies via any mode of transport, and I THINK that changing mode in NL is OK (eg foot passenger to Rotterdam, coach to city, train out of NL) but you would have to check that as it didn't apply to us.
The problems in Spring/early Summer of '21 were caused by the fact that different rules apply for mode of transport on arrival. Some rules for air, others for coach or private car, for a while there was a vacuum around arrival by sea. P&O copped for some fines off NL border force and so refused boarding for UK passport holders for a while until the situation clarified (several loooooong weeks).

@maggieleonard, I'd be interested in anything you find out in your planning as it sounds like we're doing similar-ish journeys. We're currently considering returning via Paris (Nightjet from Salzburg). According to Seat61 "Belgium requires a test before arrival and a Covid test on day 1 or 2 after arrival with isolation until you get the result - so for travel between the UK and Germany or Austria & beyond, it's best to re-route via Paris." Not sure if this is still true as the info was last updated in December, but it might be something to look into if you do go via Brussels.

@maggieleonard, From your post it sounds like you are looking to go from the UK to Brussels via Eurostar? -- Under current regulations you cannot do this as France will not let you enter their country... (hopefully it will all change next week...)

If you Eurostar to Brussels you go through Belgian customs not French. The train doesn’t stop in France (or if it does there will be a separate carriage)

There is a typo and if you read the Belgian govt website in french you don’t have to quarantine if you are going to be in Belgium for more than 48 hours even if you have been in the uk for more than 48 hours
les voyageurs qui ne viennent pas en Belgique via un transporteur et qui ont été à l’étranger pendant 48 heures maximum, ou qui resteront en Belgique pendant 48 heures maximum, ne doivent pas remplir de document PLF.
Passengers who are not coming on a public vehicle, and who have been abroad less than 48h, OR who will stay in Belgium less than 48 h, don’t need to fill out the arrival form.

Passengers who are not coming on a public vehicle, and who have been abroad less than 48h, OR who will stay in Belgium less than 48 h don’t need to fpresent a test certificate.
Passengers who are coming from a third country, or from an EU or Schengen country considered as a red zone, who were in that red zone country for more than 48h AND who will stay in Belgium for more than 48h, have to quarantine.
(i.e. if you saty for less than 48h you don’t have to quarantine)

@ajc2260626, the situation is fine, we came from Hull on Tues 4th. You get tested in the ferry terminal prior to embarkation. Once in Rotterdam it appears that Dutch customs acknowledge that everyone coming in off the boat is clear.
Netherlands into Germany there is no frontier.
Good drive, but comfortable, down to Basel (Ch) we already had a vignette on the car and sailed straight through the border.
I should stress that we have all the relevant paperwork and Vax history on telephones.
To summarize.....it was painless!

My read of the Dutch government's requirements are that vaccinated UK nationals require a PCR in last 48 hours or antigen in last 24 (of arrival), complete a health declaration and a quarantine declaration. We are subject to quarantine, but there is an exemption for 12 hour transits. This is different from the transit exemption from testing and vax, which does not apply to those arriving by ferry.
