Poster: A snowHead
|
Child #2 is off on a uni trip to Val d’Isere in April, and on her big sister’s advice is trying to avoid the coach-trip of death from Manchester.
So her plan is to have a week in Morzine with her sister and mates the week before, then head to Val d’Isere on the Saturday when the bus arrives from Manchester. Ski (a bit) and party (a lot) with uni then head back to Geneva to fly home as the bus heads back on the 26 hour flog to Manchester.
I can’t see a remotely easy way to go direct from Morzine to Val d’Isere so my thinking was shared transfer back to Geneva, then another one to Val - unless anyone has any other ideas?
I’ve looked at trains from Cluses to Bourg St M but that doesn’t even come up as a journey on the websites I’ve looked at so is presumably horribly complex.
Anything else I should consider?
Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Trainline shows a 5h journey from Cluses to Bourg via Chambéry - with buses on either end that's a long day. Never used it but have heard good things about Blablacar https://www.blablacar.fr/ which could get her part/all of the way.
Having done those coaches 3 times (a while ago..) I'd work hard to avoid them!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks @antipotato - her sister has given her fair warning and to ignore all those who say “It’ll be fun!”.
Will give blablacar a look, though a couple of transfers still looks doable.

Two shared scheduled transfers is probably the simplest, if not the cheapest option, and only involves 1 change.
BlaBla Car can work well, but it' sometimes a bit hit and miss.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Maybe she can be lucky to get a blabla to at least Albertville / chambery which would put her in good stead for a train to BSM.

On the way out it sort of is fun. We left UWE early evening on a Friday, at the end of term, following a drink the bar dry SU event. Everyone is buzzing for the holiday, so it's not too horrendous.
The journey back is hideous, after a week of skiing and partying, all you want to do is get home. A day of travel is not fun, especially when there's snow on the roads all the way as far as Gatwick! Those that weren't first years had the right idea and stayed until the saturday and flew home!
Looking at rome2rio, it suggests bus to Geneva via Thonon then transfer shuttle to Val D'Isere. It's a fairly lengthy day, but probably the best bet.

Back in Dec. I needed to swap between Tignes and Morzine and by far the best cost/time balance option was Tignes->Geneva/Geneva->Morzine shared transfers.

Perfect - that’s the conclusion I was coming to. Many thanks!
PS Am still looking on choppertrader.com just in case a nice low mileage example comes on the market at under five hundred quid
