Was walking the mutts yesterday and now the sled-dogs are back in town doing good trade with those here on hols.
Ullr goes mildly berserk, howling and barking as the sled-teams go past, then just as three teams had gone through, this XC skier appeared on the rutted track they use, and from the timing, it seemed she was using the sled-teams ahead to motivate her dog to chase.
She was fully harnessed up, similar to what I use for running, so no room for error with the very thin XC skis, in running at least I can use my body weight to slow him down, though not too sure how that would work on skis.
You can see the actual XC piste to the left.
I'm going to wait until things are quieter before trying it, and then I'll be holding his long leash rather than be harnessed in and no poles.
I saw some people doing exactly that on the lake at Champex in Switzerland a couple of years ago.
So bear in mind that was on smooth ice, so even less chance of stopping, and there was an area of the lake where the ice was too thin to go on....and the dog was running at full speed in that direction

@belette, @rungsp, think it all depends on the width of the ski, presume best to start with a normal ski and see what it's like. If you've never done Cross Country it's difficult to appreciate how unstable these skis are.

@Weathercam, go for it. You can also do it with a mountain bike in the summer. All season fun sorted.

@Weathercam, there used to be an outfit doing this with horses between Guibertes and Monetier at one time. I've seen it in Canada too, but I would prefer sledding I think.

@Weathercam, I ended up in hospital getting stitched up when my Labrador decided he wanted to procreate with an attractive lady dog. I wasn't even harnessed, just didn't let go of the leash fast enough. Me and my MTB both ended up in the river with me headbutting a rock! Just sayin...
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Skijor rigs generally include some bungee so as to even out the shock loads a little (well in theory).
