So, we need a negative PCR result within 72 hours before arrival in Switzerland. Best to do it as early as possible to allow ample time to receive the results
BUT
What happens if the flight is delayed and that pushes the time of the test greater than 72 hours prior to actual arrival?
Do they work on scheduled arrival time or actual arrival time?
A real issue for me as I'm flying (I hope) on 2nd Jan and I imagine it will be difficult to get tested on either 31/12 or 1/1.

According to the Calais website (Swiss canton) it is required up to 72 hours pre departure. This usually means scheduled departure but you could have issues if flights are cancelled. See www.Valais.ch.
In my experience the airline monitors this - the Swiss border police don’t seem particularly interested (or weren’t last time).
It would be safest to test on day 1 or 2 (ie within 48 hours) before the flight acknowledging that that may not be easy.

This. The Swiss don't seem to be checking test results at passport control - they assume (rightly) that your test data was verified at check-in.

A couple of hours ago, passport control at Geneva airport checked our passport, NHS vaccination certificate, FOPH QR code and the PCR test certificate. On the plus side we landed at 18:55 and were down on the train platform 25 minutes later!

That's really good to hear. We have about 2.5 hours to go from landing, collecting luggage and train leaving Cornavin, so nice to hear its not taking too long to get through passport control at the moment.
Fingers crossed that's still the case in mid January when we go!

Wow. Nothing like that at Zurich. Passport (and residence permit in our case) only, and off you go. That was 2 weeks ago mind.

So it was before the requirement to have a PCR, so not really relevant?
