Hi,
Looking at Austria for a few days before Christmas. There’s easyJet flights into Innsbruck but just thinking worst case, if those get cancelled, what hoops do we need to jump through to transit via Munich? My wife and I are both vaxxed and we have an 8 year old. From what I read, we don’t need to do anything for Germany because we’d be transiting, just proof of vaccinations. Is that correct?

If your flight gets diverted to Munich dont worry, as two things.
Firstly EJ are responsible to getting you to Innsbruck so they will transport you.
Secondly, which we have done in the past, caught the train from Munich because its quicker, for us in Kirchberg, to be bussed practically passed our valley, to just return again.
But most importantly, the regs for flying into both are the same, so dont worry.

@marcs44, as it currently stands you do indeed only need proof of vaccination and wear FFP2 masks. The train journey is a doddle and you can even check times and buy tickets on Trainline.com.

I used to work in Salzburg but fly into Munich (much more flights into Munich from Manchester than anywhere else in Austria). The drive is real easy and pleasant even in winter, if you're planning on renting a vehicle. The train is even easier. It's barely worth taking up EJ on their obligation of onward travel unless you truly want to be crammed into a bus or something!
Be advised, there is a road checkpoint on the border of Austria and Germany and it has been turned into a manual checkpoint for every vehicle, in both directions, with officials checking papers, many times during my time working in that area. In the migrant crisis in 2018 and during the start of the COVID pandemic (when I was again working there) they did instate the manual checking of all vehicles - so keep your papers close by.

The entry regulations for Germany have an exemption for those who are transiting through the country. So no need to fill in pre-arrival forms etc for Germany
