Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ullr* is circa 9 months old now and is from Le Bez the village across the valley from us, and we've known his mother since she was a puppy.

It was thought that Lucky when she was in season might have escaped and had it away with the sled dogs that stay in the valley here doing sled dog rides, her owner took her to a nice Collie but by then the deed was done Laughing

When he was a pup we did many a hike with him, off the lead from day two, as it helps to have a pack of Jacks as well.

And then back in the UK we've been running with him up on the South Downs and along the promenade. Even running with him on the Park Runs attached to a harness and his sled dog heritage really showed with him howling and barking at the start

We only arrived in Serre day before yesterday so we thought we'd take him for a walk on the skis, but obviously, that turned into a full-on ski tour as we did a mini road-trip up near the Italian border yesterday to see what the snow is like, as not too much in Serre Chevalier currently!

We found some good cold snow though a tad technical to ski and as you'll see in the video he was loving it.

Poor Beanie was showing her age and just found the going a little too deep and cold, whilst Kiki was happy back at home in the warmth.

What was amazing was that while we were transitioning (taking skins off etc) he walked around in a circle three or four times digging the snow out and then nestled down in his hole and curled up just like a real sled dog!

As for the descent at first, he was in front of me which was a little disconcerting and running off where he thought the best line was, but by the end, he was loving it and the deep snow was not a problem at all for him Very Happy

Great photos of your lovely lad. Pardon me asking though. Should you be running/touring with an adolescent dog? My only experience is labradors and Springer but they are limited to 5 minutes exercise per month of age until the age of one. Ruins their joints if they are overworked. Our resident vets may have a better idea with your fella though?

@hawkesbaynz, we were conscious of that for the first six months, though didn't totally adhere to it, our Jacks have been dragged up in a similar fashion and no issues, also think for pedigree dogs they do tend to be more fragile if our Newfoundland was anything to go by!
