Poster: A snowHead

Does anybody have any experience of hiring a board in Tignes? Anywhere good? I can't see any specialists that rent there.
There's a big ding in the edge of mine, and things have changed so much since I bought it I don't know what to replace it with. (I asked a couple of different people to repair it and they both went "ummm, suck in through their teeth, we wouldn't guarantee it")
It's a fairly normal standard camber board, a Gnu Temple Cummins in 161, which I guess these days would be considered a directional twin or something.
I'm on the PSB - I've skied the last couple of times I've been but would really like to get back on a board, and too near to think about buying, especially since I have no idea of what I want. (Although I do keep eyeing up the K2 Alchemist I tried at Hemel)

I'd drop Tignes Spirit an e mail with a pic of the damage to see what they think. They are native English speakers. They are in Lavachet 5 mins from Taos. As for help with a new board, i'll take on on tropical fish!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Defo Tignes spirit. They'll fix it if it's fixable. If not, they have the best range of rental boards in resort.

Thanks both. For info, this is the damage...
I think it must have been done on the flight back, but I didn't board the following year so didn't notice until I went to pack about 2 years after I'd last used it. I guess that's 5 or 6 years ago now.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

TBH, that's pretty à$*%ed, but a decent shop will be able to cut the edge out, smooth the base off and either put a section of edge in or build a hard edge from epoxy. Looks like it's just inside the contact point, so would probably need a piece of edge glued-in.
It wouldn't be a repair that would last forever, but if you're a one-week-a-year rider you might get another 3 or 4 years out of it!

This is true. But it's a very time consuming process and a decent shop will be very busy, I doubt they'll want to do it. Or if they do, charge the earth for it.

Tignes Spirit will do it. Unless they reckon it's too far gone.

That Alchemist is a nice board... I got a ping like that on my old Triumph and got it fixed (albeit it was only a year old when I tagged a buried bit of tree) got it fixed for about C$80 and the repair is still there today. Depends on what the board is wirth to you I suppose.
I expect that @Spyderjon could do it for you in the UK if you prefer, or contact Scott at The Skiers Lounge, you'd probably need the repair to cure for a good couple of days before using it in anger again.

Yep, that's fixable. I use special heated clamps that'll cure off 'slow-cure' waterproof flexible epoxy in an hour that'd normally take 48 hours.

Thanks all.
I'm barely a 1 week a year rider these days - although I'm planning on making it 2 this winter. The board is very old, but except for that and a fairly deep base repair that seems to have come adrift (also next to an edge, but closer to the middle) it is in pretty good shape. The ding is just before the edge starts to straighten and curve back in at the back end, heel side.
While I've got people's attention, any idea where I can get one of these? I've had a trawl around the Gnu support pages but they don't go back far enough... If it isn't clear it's the forward lean adjuster block thingy. I've also had a Google around but I might be calling it the wrong name.

Forward lean adjuster is the right name (sometimes refered to as a FLAD). Those bindings look pretty ancient though, you might be out of luck finding a direct replacement part.
To answer your original question: for rentals you could try Black Cats in VC https://www.blackcatstignes.net/ or indeed Tignes Spirit.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yeah, that's a pretty generic basic FLAD. Unlikely to find an exact match, but asking nicely for someone to rake around in their random parts drawer may well meet with success. Again, Tignes Spirit a decent shout.
