Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SKI resort to replace St Anton

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We had a 1 week with friends planned to ST Anton from the 3th December for 7 nights.
NOW with Austria going back into lockdown that is going to be off the table so we are looking at alternatives. Any ideas? We have flight to Zurich.
What is best ski resort you advice from ZURICH airport…

Engelberg or Andermatt if you are good skiers

Lenzerhiede / Arosa may be an option? Less than 2 hours from Zurich.
Never been there but it's on my list...

The main thing to check is what lifts will be open, as most resorts don't open much in early December, especially outside of weekends.

A few thoughts:
- Zermatt will probably have more open that most
- Andermatt should be a decent option if Gemstick is open, you are good skiers, and don't mind using the same lift (with multiple descent options) most of the time
- Engelberg should have cable-cars open for non-skiing guests, which will also give decent skiing options. If you're happy to change resorts mid-week, a mix of Andermatt and Engleberg is an option
- Flims / Laax is worth a look; I think they open reasonably early
- Not sure about Lenzerheide / Arosa. I doubt much will have opened that early. I had a really good weekend there in mid December when they first opened several lifts, but that was later in December than you'll be there
- Verbier is another option

Another vote for Andermatt/Sedrun if you are good intermediates upwards. This area has some great skiing comparable to St Anton, Lech, Zurs on a smaller scale but fine for a week. Some great off piste but early season can be a bit sketchy unless they have big early season snow falls. If conditions are good hire a guide for a couple of days, the runs off the back of the Gemstock are sensational. Not much apres ski like St Anton but the Spycher bar in the village cente is very atmospheric and they do reasonably priced pizza and good beer.
