This guy must get withdrawal symptoms that make us all appear to have just a passing interest in skiing.
Absolute Nutter!

We don't let the lack of snow get in the way of our sport up here in the Lake District ! www.winterhighland.com/phorum-3.4.1/download.php/9,76/2004_0328_013415AA.JPG
I seem to remember that scree skiing was quite popular about 20 years ago. I can remember seeing a documentary item about it.
I suspect its somewhat frowned upon these days, in the same way that scree running is. Also most of the good screes have been largely worn out.

Slowplough, I'll see if Chris Davison from Chantemerle down in Serre Chevalier has any 'photos he could post here of the scree skiers there. A full on Summer sport and an answer to and old SCGB question from our kevin (mcclean) about what happens to last season's ex rentals.
I wonder if they use chainmail sallies....

Thanks Mark, indeed scree skiing is a recognised summer activity here in the Serre che. The problem is that to perform it you have to find ridiculously steep slopes (50 degrees plus) and you have to climb up and have no fear and have a high tolerance of pain and your blood must be able to clott quickly and after its the law to rollerblade down the road (ie the Col d'ilszard, one of the steepest climbs on the Tour de France) holding on to an accelerating car because the drop just isnt fierce enough! A great spectator sport, though.

The gentleman in the original photo apears to be ski-ing on old Rossignol Opens - one of the worst skis ever made - perhaps they dreamed the whole thing

Hi chris, good to "see" you here. Still quickening the old heart rate with your new toy? You all set for the MB season - it's just about to kick off isn't it?

To quicken the heartrate more I thought I could junk the wheels on the MB, attach old skis and have a go at MB scree skiing but then changed my mind and decided to sit in the sun and do some extreme gin and tonic drinking. Cheers Mark!
