Hi folks
Hope someone can help me.
Me and my family are looking to go skiing next year.
I can ski but my 2 kids 8and11 and other half have never other than a couple of hours in Lapland a couple of years ago.
So I’m after advice on a good place to go.
Ideally it would be picturesque with things other than skiing to do.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction?
Cheers Matt

It will be February half term. Probably a hotel would suit us best.

Mainstream pretty resorts with short transfers and lots of things to do, are going to be expensive at half term. Do you have very deep pockets or what aspect is easiest for you to compromise on?
A catered chalet where there are likely to be other children of similar ages could work well but that probably means France which can be less picturesque.
Picturesque is more likely to be Switzerland or Austria or the South Tyrol (Südtirol) area of Italy. But not so easy to find catered chalets.
How about Ellmau? There are some “chalet hotels” there run by British tour operators. Get a package and you don’t have to worry about transfers etc and can concentrate on the family. Aim to get a 5% discount off the brochure price by being a member of one club or another.
Ellmau also is a real town and has a good leisure centre with pool etc (Kaiserbad)

A couple to research for you, Grimentz in Switzerland, very very pretty, snow sure, easy enclosed lift access (and return if needed) from village centre to high plateau, not too large so you don't feel crowded out with beginner skills, could offer a decent combination of attributes.
A different mix, Cevinia Italy. Less traditional architecture, but quite nice village, easy learning facilities and decent size village for when piste closes.
These trying to keep away from France through such an acknowledged busy period.

@Eliseav, look at @flangesax place, as this season he is offering rooms. He has a family room as well.
We stayed there Feb half term a few years ago and it provide my niece and nephews first time on real snow. The lessons at Radstadt were great for them.
Hire a car and then you can visit the other ski areas.

Thank you @NickyJ, !!
We normally only rent to whole groups over half term, but as Nicky wrote, this year is a little different as we are offering bookings by the room.
We are located in a village and there are non ski related activities all over the place.
An amazing Spa/Therm a couple K's away and also easy for days out in Salzburg using public transport.

I think over 6yr old needs a vaccine to enter Austria?

@Mr.Egg, 12 years.
But with a test before arrival there is no need to quarantine or anything.
If you are not double vaccinated from 12 and above you will have to test every 72 hours to be allowed on the lifts.
These tests are free for everybody and available locally.

@flangesax, tests for over 12s no longer valid for lifts or accommodation etc from tomorrow.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@Chris_n, FFS
So effectively excluding all British children that are 12+
Desperately hoping France doesn’t go down that route. We can’t even pay to get our children their second vaccine

You know it makes sense.

@NickyJ, yep, blame the UK government that has a vaccine policy out of touch with the rest of Europe.

There is still time for them to announce a 2nd vaccine.
I guess they are still deciding on ‘who next’ after the 50+ get boosters.
2nd Jab for kids or under 50s
+ I think 12+ only started a 2-3 weeks ago, so still about 10 weeks before being eligible for a 2nd jab… would mean a small window for a jab before Feb half term.

@Mr.Egg, I can’t see it coming through in time. Especially as they are running studies at the moment for a second dose, it will take time for those results to come about.
