Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all, I've used hire skis for the last few years but would like to finally invest in my own skis. The last ski I used was a Volkl Flair 7.4 which I absolutely loved! I'm a 142cm ski length.
Sadly I don't think they make this ski any more as I can't seem to buy it anywhere.
Please can you recommend a similar alternative?
Many thanks

Can you tell us a bit about yourself - which might help with recommendations:
- How many weeks have you skied / What standard are you?
- What is your height and weight?
- How aggressive are you?
- Do you remain solely On Piste?
- Have you invested in your own boots?
- Can you try any recommendations before committing?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi, thanks for replying….
Skied for around 9 years (ie 9 weeks!)
Intermediate level. I would have always been a nervous skier but the last two trips have felt really happy and confident with what I was doing. I can manage to get down most reds but have not, and would not feel
confident to attempt a black yet.
I’m not the fastest or most aggressive in the group, but I wouldn’t be the slowest either. I’m just happy mooching along at my own
pace and sticking somewhere in the middle.
Height 154cm. Weight 58kg.
I tend to make short turns on the mountain and mainly stick to the piste.
Yes I have my own boots.
I’m not sure about trying recommendations. I was hoping to buy before our next trip (later this year) but I could always hold off and ask in resort if they have something suggested.
Many thanks.

@Nervous Nellie, Excellent.
As a bloke, I won't have tried any suggestions that I might come up with, so hopefully you will get more "first hand" experience.
I think the length of 142 isn't far away.
I'll be back if I can come up with any suggestions.
It's always preferable/advisable to try before committing - though if you do lots of research and get a good deal, it can prove worthwhile to buy "blind".

Many thanks for everyone's replies.
I'll certainly check out the Flair 75 and see what I think of them.
I think I'll test them out first though as they seem a little more advanced than the Flair 74.
Really appreciate all your info.

If you liked the Volkl Flair - that should be at the top of your list.
I will throw in:
Head Pure Joy (143; waist 73; r=8.6m) - Synthetic core
Head Real Joy (143; waist 73; r=8.6m) - Wood core
Head Absolute Joy ((143; waist 79; r=9.7m) - Wood core
Dynastar E Lite 3 (142; waist 74; r=10m) - Wood core
Nb. I think the Volkl Flair 7.4 is: 142; waist 74; r=10.8; Wood core

@Old Fartbag, oooh brilliant!
Thank you for the additional suggestions.
I'll do my research on those ones. I'm liking the measurements on the Dynastar E Lite so will check out that one first out of the four you mentioned.
Many thanks
