With every boot (apart from race boots) having GripWalk soles within the next few years it's going to be a tough sell for them in the new boot market. Are there sufficient older alpine soled boots out there to make this viable?

@spyderjon, I don't find any discomfort anyway, but I think this is a solution looking for a problem! And as you say, everyone* will be on curvy soles sooner or later.
* except the one week a year Parisiens.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Seems like bollox -
i who is going to want to drill this into their sole?
ii doesn't even seem to protect for wear at the heal and toe
iii if you have to walk a serious distance on hard surfaces just wear some cheap trainers and find somewhere to stash them.

Sorry terrible idea.
15 years ago when working as a ski tech in Banff I had a side gig putting vibram soles on ski patorlers alpine boots - lots of work to do it - BUT they ended up with a sole as durable as any factory touring boot.
These converters do NOT do that.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

spot on, what a load of tosh, and you can be sure they are NOT compatible with all binding models

seems like a very limited market to me. Presumably any boot two season old or younger is the likely taret, minus people for who it isnt any issue, minus those who can't be bothered, minus those who will overcome when they buy their next boots, minus those who really are unwilling
pay the cost equalls bug all market ....

Fixing a problem that doesn't exist. I have pull on grippers from Sidas (I think) which do solve a problem, that of slipping on ice when you put your heel down.
I just would never see this product as something I would remotely want.

PS it will s only going to take one binding to not release and someone will sue their asss

After reading spyderjon's post/before clicking the link I was thinking .oO(Walking in ski boots has never been a major issue for me, but if it reduces heal/toe wear...)Oo. It doesn't, in fact it could make it worse as rather than the careful foot placement of the skiless alpine sole you'll naturally slip in to the more normal 'slight scuff of the heal putting your forward foot down' stride.
And surely a very simplified binding mounting would be both better (can cover heal/toe wear) and easier. Just needs to pick up on toe and heal mount 'ledges' (I'm sure they have a proper name), with a little leaver at the back to leaver the clip-on sole away from the boot heal legde to pop them off. But still probably a solution looking for a problem.

Plus of course there are already a few options out there that combine protection with a rocker in removable covers

I think Yaktrax used to have a heel throw and toe bail but I'm not certain. Cat-tracks have always worked ok for me - though they are not without their ping off challenges.

that must have been written before the Sidas Traction came out (or in a country that doesn't sell Sidas) its replaced cat tracks for us, mostly due to the massive price rises on cat tracks and for durability

@CEM, must admit I thought the Skiskooty was the name for the Sidas in (bits of) the US market but maybe that was a confused google haze.
