Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What's going on with Esprit nurseries / childcare?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We booked early with Esprit for next season in the hope we can get away. I noticed they've massively scaled back their operations to only 4 resorts and a handful of hotels / apartments. We originally booked for Champoluc but are now being told there won't be a nursery running there this year. All the other nurseries, kids options are shown as "sold out" in other resorts too, although they have offered us an alternative in Val D'Isere. Seems strange that a company specialising in family hols can't offer nursery or childcare places. Anyone know what's going on?

@Dashed, probably due to Brexit and associated staffing issues.

I did wonder if this was the case but blimey, this could be the end of organisations like this if they can't figure a way through it!

@Dashed, what are Esprit proposing? First time we used them it was precisely because they had nursery as we as kids clubs. Without it we wouldn’t have used them.

@Dashed, exactly, and not just childcare ski hols but the likes of sailing holidays / sailing schools offering RYA courses and the like is what I've heard.

So far, they've offered to move us from Champoluc to Val D'Isere - fine in principle but the Ducs De Savoire (which is the chalet hotel they are offering) was always their cheapest option and we stayed there a couple of years ago - it was like a school trip (including the food). It's in the process of being refurbed apparently and they are doing childcare there, but it's not on their website anywhere. Tignes and La Rosiere were also mentioned as options, but neither seem to have any childcare options available so waiting for them to come back to us with alternatives which DO have childcare!

I have a feeling they are really struggling for staff and are trying to consolidate childcare into as few locations as possible.

@Dashed, Sad. Have stayed in their Ducs de Savoie and yes it was OK but the Champoluc place looks nicer. We stayed with then in Gressoney and loved that region and it is high on my list to return to when we can.

Best of luck. I don’t envy your situation.

Brexit. They can’t ship nannies over in number.

I suspect C19/Brexit/Restriction on UK workers all combining. They are probably in a position where they don't want to over commit to 2021/22 in the event that it is put on hold again.

Same guess here. You can try to be optimistic, they may be investigating the market for recruiting enough Irish (or Irish passport holders) to replace their normal staff. If they have to look for locals fluent in English - and with a nanny qualification recognised in the UK - they may need to offer higher pay and adjust prices for customers accordingly.

There is a risk Esprit and similar, as well as the summer sailing specialist holiday companies, will no longer find their model viable.

I think that is indeed a risk.
