Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flaine lift pass only or Grand Massif lift pass for family - advice please

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on here. We are a family of four. Our two kids aged 8 and 11 have both skied for a week last year, my wife is an intermediate and I am an intermediate/advanced skier. We are heading over to Flaine for a week in March and I am unsure what to purchase with regards the lift passes.

We will all be doing group ski lessons that last between 0930 and 1230 for 6 days.

Although you can purchase 6 day family Grand Massif ski passes for us all at a discount, you cannot do the same for the Flaine area as they price by the day or less and overall this works out more expensive. I can't really judge where we will get best value for money in the timescale we have available after lessons on the afternoons?

Appreciate if anyone else has been in a similar predicament and what they done or what you would advise.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi safcloyal, welcome to snowheads. Sounds like its a value proposition on the grand massif pass, as a family card but no option on the Flaine only area. Skied here a few times, but always out of either Samoens or Les Carroz, and we have pretty much always had at least half the days involved going over to Flaine. Sound like you could all easily get over in the afternoon for a change of scene. Depends on the cost for you, but you shoild be able to get use of it. As to value only you can judge. I first went to Samoen with my kids as first timers at 9, 12, and 14. I got the Grand massif pass without even thinking about it. snowHead

Welcome to the site.
I've stayed both sides (Samoens and Flaine). The best snow is generally over in Flaine, and to be honest some of the better runs are there anyway. If you are into your reds Flaine will do it for you. I've always purchased GM full ticket because of the flexibility and because we have been to Flaine 3 times now, it is nice to explore a bit further afield. Last time friends were in Flaine and we were in Samoens so needed to get GM. However, if you are only going to be skiing afternoons and there is a significant difference in price, why not see if you can upgrade your ticket for the full GM for maybe 1 or 2 of your 6 days. There are some superb runs over the other side, they tend to be a bit quieter as well.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Grand Massif family pass is the best value for money
Cheaper than just a Flaine pass but gives you the option of going further
That said, please be careful if your kids have only skied for a week.
There is only one run back into Flaine from the rest of the GM (Tourmaline down from the Grand Vans) and although it's shown as blue, the last part gets very busy, very warn, very icy, very narrow - we see lots of accidents ever year where people don't realise and have to get down the slope
