Poster: A snowHead

Now having rolled forward my flights to Geneva to next year, I am after any recommendations for a catered chalet which will sleep 12 people. max of 2.5hrs from Geneva. This is all made up of family (my family, my sisters and my parents), 6 adults 6 children and the oldest child will be 15 the youngest 10.
I am not after luxury but more wholesome? How we do want a good number of bathrooms and ideally ensuites for each of the adult bedrooms.
Would prefer no need of buses to the slopes / lifts.
Not too expensive. Appreciate that this with the above ask is going to be “a challenge”
Experience levels are mixture of my sisters partner and 2 children it will be their second week on snow. My sisters own children have done two weeks and she, my family and my parents have skied for years but my parents may not be up for skiing. Last Feb mum was saying it will probably be their last time but then they did decide they would join us in December (which obviously never happened!)
Appreciate any suggestions!

How many bedrooms do you need? Would the children go 3/4 to a room?
I’d go for Les Gets or La Clusaz

Sadly this early everything will be top dollar , there will be huge pent up demand for next season.

@Rob Mackley, I am suspecting that will be the case
I was originally thinking self catered as obviously that has loads more options. However my sister is keen for catered which tbh I do prefer for same reasons as she does.

@NickyJ, there are SO many companies doing flexible food delivery etc now but it doesn’t solve the housework issue!

@NickyJ, do you mean you want exclusive use of a chalet just for your group of 12? As opposed to being a group of 12 in a larger chalet that would have other guests in.

Ideally exclusive use for 12. If more I may be able to get others to join us (or more specifically my sister has already said she has a friend with boys who has said they want to join us, however I am reluctant to commit to more people especially when I haven’t met them, but if it means there is an option which is opens up happy days)

I can think of 2 or 3 that might suit but will have to dig out info on them a bit later. Bit unsure about whether they’re definitely operating as catered chalets next season.
I know a bigger place, which is fab, without being flash, (wholesome?) but it would have other guests in, therefore not ideal, from what you say.
At the risk of upsetting our snowHead versions of The Stig, I’m guessing your 2.5 hours drive from GVA limit might rule out the big Tarentaise areas, Paradiski, 3V, EK? If not, it would open up quite a few more options.

I’m wondering if we could gather info about these companies? Similar to the stuff collected about airport to resort transfers, which is a very useful resource.
I suspect growing use of self catering apartments and demand for food delivered in, especially dinner.

@PeakyB, that limit is mainly for my Dads benefit. However if that means we could find that magic unicorn of a resort at a good price then could be possible or may change the numbers

Sorry, but you're going to have to be more specific about your budget - what exactly is 'not too expensive'? Even a broad range will help. And which week is that, bearing in mind that the Feb Half-term isn't the same everywhere?
Just about every resort has one, or more usually more, cafés and restaurants offering an order-in (or should that be order-out?) delivery service.
Here's a friend's chalet in the 4 Vallées which has exactly that sort of service arrangement with a local caterer.

I have previously managed to get it to 1k per head and hoping for the same. So that includes flights, transfers, lift passes, accommodation, and some lessons.
Edit to add: next season I think I will fail. Nb the flights for us 4 are paid at £500

@NickyJ, I got the impression you’re able to change your previously cancelled EZY flights to another date, to the same country. I always think Sunday’s a better day to travel, especially at half term. The downside is not having much time once back home to get sorted ahead of work/school.

@PeakyB, just tried and now I have "Managed Disruption", I don't get free changes. Bournemouth doesn't have a Sunday flight, and if I change to Southampton it wants to charge me (a lot!). I prefer Saturday returns precisely for that reason, to have a day to get sorted before back to work / school.

We went with Ice and Fire a few years back and found them very good to deal with. I believe they are under new management now though.

Ah hadn’t realised that. Being Sunday transfers mean that is out.
However that is the sort of company / place we are looking for. Price wise would work.

Hmmm, whilst 'rough & ready' is how I`d describe the chalets, and apartments, at the Mont Blanc Lodge in Vallandry, they were clean, and comfortable enough if rather tired in some respects. We chose it for the location (right on the piste) and because that particular year we wanted very odd dates and they were able to accommodate us in one of the apartments. We drove and arrived at mid night due to some transport issues, they stayed up for us in the main chalet and had a hot meal and plenty of wine waiting for us.

@NickyJ, lots of things about this place may make it anything but an ideal suggestion, I normally try to stick to the question....never visited the resort, or the property, its 20-22 sized rather than 12....and that's three I can think of off the top of my head, but I have a vague recollection that the owner/manager popped up on snowheads a year or two ago and gave the impression that it would be a relaxed, helpful and flexible place to take a family or larger group. May also come into your budget parameters. Some snowheads may also have visited so be able to offer a more accurate assessment......

@toyah807, thanks email sent trying to get floor plan. It is within brief as I did say we could look bigger (I would just need to tempt others to join us and we have already had an expression of interest).
@CaravanSkier, thanks as well. I would much rather have “rough and ready” and good location, as well

@NickyJ, Location wise it`s hard to beat the Mont Blanc Lodge. Even in the dreadful snow conditions prevailing at the time of our early season visit it was ski out, ski in. The food was always plentiful and tasty enough, if not always wonderfully presented. The staff (and the owner) really were very helpful about everything. Even trying to source me a new laptop lead in BSM as mine was broken (Fail lol but they tried)
We stayed in the 3 bedroom Lodge that had a downstairs ensuite necessary for my Aunt (though someone chunky would have struggled to get into the shower). Our lodge was sometimes a little noisy early evening (apres ski time) as the bar attached was quite busy, but once the bar doors were shut at night and the shutters on the bedrooms closed, not really an issue. Plus it was very convenient for us to have an evening drink in the bar and stumble home
I had a brief look around the two bigger chalets with a view to booking for all of our family at some point, and whilst quirky is the word that comes to mind re the floor plans, they would have of interest except for accommodating my Aunt, too many stairs!

we stayed here a few New Years ago, absolutely fabulous place, we did S/C but they offer catering options I believe.
Only hassle is a walk to the "bucket" lift in the morning up to the ski area, I don't know wether that keeps the price a bit lower for the quality of the place or not?? Friends left a van by the bucket lift so walked up in trainers and got changed into boots at the van and left skis in the van each night.

@kitenski, Yep! Its a good tip to leave one vehicle at the base of the lifts, we did that at Les Eucherts, also useful if you have a few sets of the car keys if folk want to start or arrive back at different times of the day. The other option is a ski hire shop at the base of the lifts that will allow you to leave boots, ski`s etc with them. We have done that when hiring for the kids but with some of our own stuff left there too. Or hire of a ski locker at the base of the lifts is possible too in some places.

Thanks for this. It is useful but just for others, vast majority at Morzibe centric.
I agree a thread dedicated to this would be very useful IMHO. Especially listing which resort they serve.
I am looking at a place in La Giettaz as well now as well.

+1 for the option of going self catered accommodation plus hiring in a chef for evening meal
its worked fabulously for us over the last 4 years in Sainte Foy. We found a great lady from Bourg that drives up each evening, prepares, cooks, and cleans away
She does all the shopping and just presents the receipts for payments.
The major plus is you eat what you want, when you want it. You control the budget and quality of food as there are no chalet operators profits being factored. 3 courses + cheeses
Guide price - 265 euros per day + shopping costs.
