Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi,

Does anybody know of any private snowboarding instructors at Flumserberg, or do you have to go through the ski school there (which is very expensive) ?

Thanks for any tips!

Cheers

Its Switzerland. Private instruction is very expensive.

Private lessons are not cheap anywhere. If I recall correctly, there is the Swiss Ski School and this lot (https://www.startsnowboarding.ch/) in Flumserberg.

It looks like an hour of private instruction is around 100 CHF (£82) which is the going rate in most Swiss resorts that I've been to.

Sorry - I'm not good at replying to the individual posters, apologies.

100 CHF per hour private lesson is what I'm seeing too for the Swiss Ski School.
I'll check out https://www.startsnowboarding.ch/

Thanks guys!

@patjennings, hey - my neighbour says that’s the going rate but that Flumserberg magic carpet area is free if they just want to have a go

Don't know specifics for Flumserberg, but as stated, there is a dedicated snowboard school in town. For a young novice, I would go for group lessons. Make sure that the instructor is a PROPERLY qualified snowboard instructor and NOT just the ski junior who drew the short straw for turning up to the morning meeting late.

Save any specific private instruction until they can link a slopes worth of turns together to get the best out of the instruction and VFM.

Do the kids ski, or do you (or someone else) snowboard proficiently?

Expensive stuff. I suppose that you are tied to Flumserberg? Otherwise at a smaller resort nearish by at Wildhaus the ski school there are doing privates from CHF80 per hour. If for a young novice a smallet resort may not matter, but might for others in your party. Thought I would mention it.

And look out for offers, you never know. We managed to get CHF50 for some privates in Crans as it was the early morning slot.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@ster, or Brunni - the magic carpet would be fine for a one hour total

I might look at the group lesson option. I snowboard ok myself but not a good teacher!

@patjennings, I have done a bit of teaching with them, but most of my twos time learning has come from group lessons. Half day group lessons for a week, and then me with them in the afternoon going over a few things, doing some basic stuff and just generally getting the mileage in. After a couple of weeks, they are competent enough riders to keep up reasonably well (on blues and reds, blacks tend to be a bit...sketchy).

IMV at that age groups are good as they get a bit of camaraderie going over whos doing better than who and the like (my youngest took great delight watching all the teens in his group fall by the weyside while trying to show-off over the week, until it was just him and a retired Russian lady in their group who kept sneaking him extra biscuits at their coffee break)... and €2 of pin badge at the end just sweetens the deal.
