Hi All, bit of an odd request, had the locking mechanism fail on my Scott Celeste 2 boots (Identical to the Cosmos 2) and was wondering is anyone had any details on how theirs failed? I love the boots and Scott have been great and supplied a parts kit to fix the left boot (the failed one), to get me going next week, but I was thinking of fabricating a stronger (steel?) mechanism (withing the confines of the small space of the existing mechanism), but don't want to fall down (no pun intended) the traps of the existing one if my failure isn't the only way they break?
Pictures of your failures/broken parts would be amazing so I can remove as many weak points as possible! I don't mind if you want to send me them directly if you don't want to post publicly!

I've had that part fail twice on my Cosmos II boots.
Fortunatley I've been able to get the failed part replaced within an hour here in Chamonix - I couldn't tell you exactly what went wrong though, and don't have the old parts. I *think* a bolt sheared off last time (about 2 months ago, happened mid turn offpiste in deep snow! - Boot fell back into walk mode with switch still in ski mode) but couldn't say for certain.
I know it's a common failure, and the entire mechanism has been redesigned in the Cosmos III. The shop who last fixed mine have (had?) a lot of the II as rental boots so had lots of spare parts as it was so common.
I originally bought my boots from CEM, so he might know something - worth a PM or call?
I agree they are great boots - I loooove mine!

Yeah, I've heard it's a very common failure on the Cosmos 2 (even more so on the Cosmos 1) and found some pictures of how some failed which seem to be similar to mine so will concentrate on that as being a weak area.
It seems the M4 screw inside a 6mm aluminium sleeve is a fairly flawed design due to aluminium fatigue so thinking of replacing it with a steel M6 stud (with a smooth external diameter on the mechanism end) which can be braced externally to add support. Doing some quick maths a M6 bolt should be ~1.5-3x stronger than the current solution and less likely to suffer the aluminium fatigue issues of the existing design. Gonna pull both the broken and working ones apart this evening to see how to progress as currently going off memory of when I threw them in the cupboard in frustration!
