Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fascinating - I hadn't realised how old the dam was. Does anyone remember the face that was painted on it?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@EdnaTomkins, it was actually a depiction of Hercules. As I recall it was painted by a bunch of students from one of the local universities. You used to be able to make it out pre-Covid if you knew it was there in the first place, but no more.

@PeakyB, yes, I remember seeing that on my first trip to Tignes in the early 1990s.

Hercules was painted in 1989 by Jean-Marie Pierret and 8 assistants ahead of the 92 Olympics. He’s also done a Nuke power station in the Ardeche.

I was there in ‘92 just before the Olympics and it was wonderfully vibrant. IIRC The Rep on the bus said the thing was drained every 10 years to reveal the old Tignes that is still there under the water.

I am surprised the old bridge that is submerged is still standing strong, and when the water recedes you are allowed to walk on it!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@Ricklovesthepowder, Yeah, guess the water pressure is equal all round when it’s submerged with little flow. But having walked it, it’s a bit Indiana Jones! EDF were telling people not to go down there this time, fat chance! When I was driving past last week there was a whole gang of mountain bikers exploring.

@Old Fartbag, There was a lot less to see this time, much more silt been laid on top of the buildings.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

There were loads of people walking on the bridge last Saturday when we went past. It was covered in snow this morning. Very different.
