Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I would buy a shovel and learn how to shift snow all day long for your Lifty L1 before going on to take your Piste Basher Level 1. Toofy Grin

If you wish to utilise your Alpine licenses, spend a few weeks lifting barrels of beer to prepare you picking up kids all day long on learn to ski in a day courses Toofy Grin

Invest in a back brace..

@kitenski, i did for a bit of teaching experience.....

its an absolute shambles, run by numpties and the instructors are treated like cannon fodder as they have a never ending supply of kids who have just started on the basi journey etc, if you are an adult and have half a brain then its a tough gig..... pay wise treat it as charity work as its £9 an hour i think, they dont pay you for the time you are there if you havent a lesson, so if you have two 1 hour lessons with an hours gap you get paid for 2 hours LOL

when i was there they were trying to get instructors to buy the uniforms (£200) its literally too ridiculous to discuss etc....

if you want some teaching experience then fair enough, but dont do it for the money

@kitenski, I’d say it could be quite fun as a part time ski hobby, bit of a laugh and useful to pass on your knowledge gained to others. I’ve only been 2-3 times many years ago and don’t recall how it was run, always seemed too busy then but it’ll likely be struggling financially at the moment, and the retail there isn’t up to much if that is any measure? The future could be good post-Covid I guess, not much opportunity for folks to go oversees so it may get busy. One observation is that there are young folk there who are from inner city areas who ski/ board there who may never even go to the real slopes. For that reason alone I think it’s a worthwhile facility but might get frustrating seeing people going too fast with limited experience and skills, but also an opportunity to help these kids improve. Good luck with it, my suggestion is see it as a vocation thing, not a job.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It's the kind of job where you could dip your toe in by working a few shifts at weekends without having to make any huge career decisions. That would give you a good idea about the reality of it. I love teaching people, but couldn't make it my full time job: by the time I've paid taxes and travel there's basically nothing left. The other benefits of slope access, training, and the enjoyment of teaching are what makes it valuable. I think I'd enjoy it less if I felt compelled to go to pay the bills.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Like Keiran says, if you like teaching and would do it for free then all good, as basically you will be working for nothing etc
