Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow conditions in mid March

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi , we are looking to book a stay in saalbach mid march (covid permitting) the accommodation we are looking just outside the village has a run that finishes at the hotel at village level
Are runs to resort level likely to be open mid march ? Giving the low altitude, we usually ski in January so do not have any experience of sking in march .

As long as they have a good base there should be no problem through until the end of the season. It might get a bit heavy late in the afternoon though.

@Skiblue, welcome to snowHeads snowHead

I’d expect Saalbach to be fine, barring a calamitous weather event. As mentioned it may get a bit heavy towards the end of the day, but with skiing on both sides of the valley, were it to get a tad warm, you should be able to plan your trips reasonably easily. It’s not like there’s any shortage of options Very Happy

Welcome.

Yes, despite its low height, Saalbach has a surprisingly good snow record and longish ski season into early-mid April.

Combined with good snowmaking, the resort runs should be open until at least end of March.

Was in Saalbach last March (mid-month).

It was our first March trip as we normally go in January. It was amazing. Sun/blue skies 5 days, fresh snow on one day. The pistes were all amazing, especially in the morning. On the warmer days, into the afternoon the lower runs into town did start to get sugary...but every run back into both Saalbach and Hinterglemm was open.

You'll have a great time.

@Skiblue, you may get more responses to this if you edit the thread title to make it clear you're asking about Saalbach.

@Skiblue, mid-March conditions have been some of the best in recent seasons. Whether the particular ski run that brings you to your accommodation will be open and in good condition rather depends on which one it is - but if it’s a main one coming from the Kohlmais, or the Bernkogel, or Schattberg, it should be skiable until at least the end of March (caveat: in a normal year).
