Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Car hire Innsbruck airport

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) of the car hire companies at Innsbruck Airport? I'm going to be renting a car for three weeks next Jan/Feb and would rather use a reliable company if only for peace of mind.

Enterprise were excellent there last time I used them. Very polite and helpful.

I've done one Hertz hire there, no issues, but no gold service available at Innsbruck.

Im an advocate of Hertz, until I had a bad experience at Innsbruck with them last trip I made. Got accused of causing scratches on the plastic bodywork inside the boot. Said it was due to the skis, yet the side of the scratches was the side of the double folding seat, and we had only ever put the skis on the other side, the single side. Charged something like 300 euros. I had an annual Excess cover policy, but just felt they were ticking the p!55. Strangely, everyone in our group watched her do the inspection, and the first thing she went to was to open the boot of the car. Personally, I`ve never had that done before, but it was so obvious. She even denied it in her written statement when I objected. She couldn`t give us any eye contact during the inspection.

So beware with Hertz at Innsbruck. One of their tricks.

In the end my Insurer paid out without quibbling, after I showed them Id tried to get them to cancel it etc etc.

We had some hassle with Sixt at Salzburg, inspection agent trying to pin a tiny stone chip damage on my mate. My mate had lost the original damage record sheet. He went straight to it, like he knew exactly where it would be. We resisted and asked a more honest guy at the check-in desk to check the previous damage and it was already noted on there, so my mate wasn't charged in the end.

Saying that, we had no trouble with Sixt at Munich or Milan in the past.

I think with all hire companies you get some employees willing to take advantage of a customers naivete. There must be some incentive to them or their position within the company to be able to charge multiple customers for the same damage. No telling which ones are going to be honest. The only way to protect yourself is to check the damage sheet carefully on pick-up and get it rectified if anything isn't on there. I've quite often had to do this as the sheets seem curiously vague. Take multiple photos of the vehicle, then you might have a leg to stand on if they want to try and pin previous damage to your account.

Having excess insurance in place also saves having to deal with the insurance upsell scam and gives peace ofmind ifyou happen to cause damage or be accused of causing previous damage. £3 or £4 a day or £35 per year from a specialist provider, £15-25 a day from the Car Hire company! Shocked

Avoid Avis, service is terrible. Best experience has been Buchbinder (although terrible at Munich).

Totally agree with Matrix, Buchbinder are very good at Innsbruck. The main man there is very honest and I'll use only them, if that's ever possible again that is.

The last few times Ive used them there has always been someone at the car park check in to give the car the once over and tick the box which is very reassuring.

Very good team and I recommend them
