Great to see the snow!!
Shame the Italian authorities currently require a recent (72hr) negative COVID test to enter the country for arrivals from the UK or a declaration that you will get one within 48hrs from an Italian health centre and quarantine until you do.
These sorts of constantly evolving requirements, apart from the risks of catching the disease, are putting me off booking anything in advance for this season.

This time last year they had already had a huge dump and were heading towards a situation where it looked as though they wouldn’t need to make any snow
It’s a bit more normal this year with no significant snow yet but a bit in the forecast possible towards the end of the month. Needs to go colder.

Nine days until the first planned day of the season at Kronplatz.
Looks to be dry and cold enough from this weekend to make snow although I note they are putting snow down tonight as well with temp only around -1c.
They should have enough time to open some of the top runs by the 5th December. If the weather stays fine the early skiing should be reliable.

Well they are getting the snow down and look to be on course to open the upper runs on the 5th December but they haven’t confirmed yet.

I know that the Dolomites has a degree of autonomy from the Italian state but not sure if that extends to public health matters or not ?
The forecast is looking good though for snowmaking. The eastern alps are right under the anticyclone so the air is cool, stable and dry. There is no wind and the visibility is excellent.
The weather models are even showing the potential for some real snow during the first week of December.

Yeah, Noza's charts are showing a pasting for the Dollies and Osttirol for next weekend on the main weather thread. Might be able to switch the cannons off for a bit, I'm sure they'll be glad of any savings this year!

Serious accummulation numbers for NE Italy/S Austria on latest GFS charts:
2m, 3m, 4+m on the highest spots!! As well as some huge amounts of rain washing down through the PreAlps.
Apart from the immediate avalanche/flood risk, it looks to be setting up a bumper start to the season in terms of snow.
Just a shame that Covid risks will be preventing anyone accessing the slopes in the near future.

The depression in the Adriatic continues to pump saturated heavy snow into the southern side of the Alps.
Alta Badia reporting 200cms on the upper slopes and 100cm at the bottom. That’s a repeat of last year. Yesterday they were reporting a piste depth of 91cms at 1535m. That’s twice the target depth (I think) that they aim for to get through the season!
No indication yet though of an opening date.

That might unfortunately change, as everyone ...Uk, Ireland, Italy etc gathers for Christmas, and IF Covid cases rise dramatically, opening dates may be delayed

And to think the snow turned to sleet and rain Saturday evening in the village, so the snow depth could have been higher with slightly colder air!!

Are they able to ski any of this in Italy? Or are they shutdown due to COVID?

There are no lifts running at the moment as far as I understand it. Pistes are closed to ski tourers as well due to the fact that they are being worked on to get them ready, plus a current high avalanche risk. Dolomite area is saying they plan to open on 7th January.
(I hope I have got that correct)

Yes, I think that's correct.
Of course the elephant in the room is if the Covid-19 infection rates in the UK don't fall drastically then after 1st Jan at the end of the Brexit transition period, as the UK will be treated as a non member country, UK tourists may not be allowed into Italy (or other EU countries).
