Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Amazon patents a Ski Lift Drone

Poster: A snowHead
Just saw this on the news taken from the Telegraph, seriously?

It will replace the ski lift by dragging skiers up a mountain using a tow handle.

The system works by attaching a retractable rope to a drone, along with a tow handle on the end of the rope.

When someone wants to travel up a slope, they summon a drone using their smartphone which sends their location to the drone.

The drone flies to their location and lowers the rope, so that the skier can hold on to the handle while the drone flies slowly up to the top of the slope.

Once the skier arrives at the top of the ski slope, the rope retracts and the drone flies away to be used another time.

Given the size of a UAV for a 90kg load (about half a Cessna) I can't see this being practical unless you own your own ski resort and you cant be bothered to skin up. I would have thought hiring a chopper for the day would be much more reliable and you could take your mates as well!

Alternatively position the motor in a fixed position and drive an endless rope to which you attach lots of tow handles.... rolling eyes

Also discussed in Episode 58 of The Ski Podcast - verdict, unlikely, good for PR though
