Another ski season approaching for Scotland.
Last season was one of the worst in history. Started in Dec and wrapped in Apr.
Scotland has 6 ski resorts.
* Glenshee = 40km of trails / 35 pistes / 22 lifts / best for beginners + intermediates.
* Cairngorm = 30km of trails / 35 pistes / 11 lifts / best for beginners + intermediates.
* Nevis Range = 20km of trails / 35 pistes / 12 lifts / best for intermediates + advanced + offpiste.
* Glencoe = 20km of trails / 20 pistes / 8 lifts / best for intermediates + advanced.
* The Lecht = 20km of trails / 18 pistes / 14 lifts / best for beginners + intermediates.
* Lowther Hills = 2km of trails / 3 pistes / 3 lifts / best for beginners + intermediates.

I think they have made the logical decision that the snow making is higher priority at the moment than the 4 person chairlift, once finances allow hopefully they will continue with the chairlift plans in a year or two's time....

Heading up to the north side of the Cairngorms for a reccy. Options are walking if snow-line too high, full ski tour if it looks favourable and if all else fails the beach at Findhorn!
If snow of any significance is found I shall report findings here.

Just peeped at the weather report for The Lecht - seems like a good chance of snow on Thursday and low temperatures afterwards. I wonder if they do get early snow whether they'd be ready to open?

Glencoe cranking up the snowmaking, is this is a test or are they trying to get some sort of base down??
|
|
|
|
|
|
My understanding of the Glencoe snowmaking is that they intend to get a base down and get something open at the start of December each year

Established base camp in Tomintoul, very snowy this morning across from Carrbridge, Grantown and Bridge o Brown.
Walking up the Avon valley in the morning with my "metoffice" mate who thinks the plateau to Macdui is the route for Sunday. Fingers crossed for viz and light winds.

Glenshee haven’t wasted any time between getting planning permission and installing their double snow factory. It’s visible on their webcam just to the left of the cafe.

There's been overnight snow at all the ski centres. Glencoe looks like it's received the most. Decent falls at Nevis and Glenshee too.

The hills up here are very white at the moment hopefully it stays cold and we get some early skiing!

Surprisingly good snow cover up Cairngorm today after more recent snowfall. Snow was more consolidated than I expected and managed to keep skis on from the carpark to the summit and back without and bumps or scrapes! Good to stretch the legs for the first ski of the winter.

Great photo !
Glenshee looks pretty good so far too, although Glencoe coverage still a bit thin.
Blinkin cold in Edinburgh today, so lets hope it holds and consolidates.

But if there is a dump of snow will any resort be ready to open earlier than they anticipated? The forecast for The Lecht is more snow tomorrow. If they do open I'll be there!!

Cant see it, tbh - unless you are doing your own thing touring per Charlie Wilkinson above - they all need to get their ducks in a row re staffing / safety etc etc and cant just start up whenever they fancy.
Also, that picture is of Caingorm - it would be slightly ironic if they had the best snow of all the resorts while also being completely disinterested in the skiing industry..............

Seriously not that hard to get a forum setup and a few boards on there so people can message. Be ideal to have it back for the winter so we can keep up to date with peoples reports and comments on the resorts snow cover

Shame that the Cairngorm funicular 'problem' doesn't look like being resolved (in any form) any time soon.
Looking at growing snow cover on FB piccies, but not sure if there's going to be any real useable uplift for us non-touring types (bar Shanks's).
Read somewhere that they're proposing to limit daily ticket numbers to 1,000... Will that many even bother to go?
