We were rescued soon after nightfall and got back to our hotel around 20:30, so didn't miss our dinner! The last evacuees made it down shortly after midnight.

I am pleased you asked as it makes me feel not so bad that that was one of my first thoughts.

No rules. Best to retain as much fluid as possible. I heard that some had bladder control issues. Don't know whether anyone actually shat themselves.

And people are just cheerful and grateful to be rescued. Such a positive vibe to come out of a scary situation.

That lift is really susceptible to wind. I wonder if this will make them more cautious about closing it. It is such an important lift as it is the only one that links from the pistes around the Plan Maison area to the Ventina and the Valtournenche area (other than getting the bus between Cervinia and Valtournenche). Fortunately (from a selfish point of view) it is not the only link back to Zermatt.

Although quite tricky hanging it out of a swaying gondola window in 80mph winds.

Blimey, that clip of the wind is scary! Puts into perspective my OH's minor 'ordeal' this summer when he got stuck on the Vallandry lift in Les Arcs. The initial message was that the lifties had gone home but then it became apparent that the chairlift had broken down. I was already in the bar by this point but the boys and their bikes had to be belayed off! Luckily the sun was shining and they had good company and crisps
It was scorchio, mind!

I don't know why more resorts don't use wind breaks at the most critical points on their lifts. I appreciate that it is not an option for completely exposed lifts, but many have a critical section of exposure that could easily be protected.
