Poster: A snowHead

Anyone know if you can take a train to (or close to) any Greek resorts.
Also, interested in experiences generally of skiing in Greece.
I'm guessing it's pretty marginal a bit like Scotland - some winters the season lasts months, others just a few weeks?
Also, presumably not much English spoken at the resorts as they're not big international places?
Thanks for any info.

Look on skiresort.info for the resorts, click the access tab and it will tell you if there is a rail connection.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My wife's family, being from Athens, used to have a place in Delphi, on the side of Mt Parnassus, which is/was the largest ski area in Greece. We went one new year and the snow was great, and was good for a couple of days or so's fun. It is about a two hour, easy drive from Athens.
It was great to combine with sightseeing, visiting the ancient ruins and museum of Delphi, the monasteries of Meteora, and so on, and it had great views of the olive groves down to the sea. We even popped down after skiing to a nearby seaside town called Galaxidi for a great fresh seafood meal in a taverna in the harbour. Quite a difference to the usual post-ski cheese and meat affair
Regarding trains, it looks like you could possibly get a train to Tithorea, but it would need a car or taxi to get to the ski lifts, which aren't directly from any town or village. I've only ever used the Athens metro so I can't comment on the train network really

I had my first ski experience on Parnassos in about 1980. The mountain keeps the snow from October until April but I imagine the season is much shorter. As said above, quite accessible from Athens by car. One weekend we skied on the Saturday and windsurfed back near Athens on the Sunday.
