Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Goretex Vs Goretex Pro (norrona Lofoten Pants)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone.
have in mind to buy a new pair of pants for next season, pure shell since i have already a lightly insulated Mammut pant. Would use it mainly for snowshoeing with snowboard on the back, (and then for splitboarding if i decide to pull the trigger).
I guess i will decide between Norrona and Patagonia, but I am open for suggestions.
I see that Norrona has already published next season pants:

what would I give up choosing the normal Goretex instead of Goretex Pro? is the difference worth the 100EUR gap?
any hint is appreciated
thanks in advance

@lorcar,

Its hard to say as it’s the new range and are not available until August. I had the same dilemma 2 years ago with the Pro vs Pro Light Pants and ended up getting the Pro Light as I didn’t think the extra 150eur was worth it. One of the biggest reasons was that the Pro’s where baggy around the lower legs compared to the Pro Light’s (I already have a pair of baggy Black Diamond pants) and I don’t use them enough to need the extra durability of the Pro’s.

But if I was buying the new range, I think I would spend the extra 100eur and get the Pro’s. They have gone down 50eur and look much better value compared to the GoreTex version.

200D fabric GoreTex Pro vs 160D fabric GoreTex C-Knit

3/4 side zips with full opening hem vs 1/2 side vent zips

Wider fit vs slimmer fit

Full Kevlar reinforcement around the ankles vs reinforcements ankle patch

Included zip-in bib with suspenders vs none but you can buy the zip-in bib for 59eur.

But... there not much difference (apart from the new colours) from the old range and the old Pro’s are 30% off (455eur) and the Pro Light’s are 40% off (300eur) in the Norrøna outlet store. I highly recommend the Pro Light’s if you don’t need the extras of the Pro’s.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

thanks a lot
from the website though i see that the fit should be the same (both are listed as "regular fit"), and none of them has the bib included (unlike last year model)
