Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austria - Tourism 2021

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Can anyone in Austria provide any indication on the current thinking of when hotels will be permitted to re-open.

Context is a school ski trip and TO are being really awkward about cancellation. Clearly UK isn't going to allow trip but the package tour regs allow cancellation by traveller if trip cant go ahead because of events in destination. If hotels are closed and will stay closed in March we can cancel. Just wondering what announcements are being made about when tourism will re-open.

thanks

No chance of hotels opening in March. After Easter at the earliest.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

They are talking about maaaaaybe opening gastgartens (open air tables for restaurants/bars) on 27th March, IIRC. That still seems unlikely though. Hotels..? Extremely unlikely.

Booked up for 26th June so hope hotels are open by then and accepting Brits. The daily positive rates seem to be trending the wrong way though. Puzzled

The first rises in Europe for 6 weeks. Most cause for concern appears to be Central and Eastern Europe. I guess the next 4 weeks will be fairly critical regarding what happens in the Summer. I can’t see wholesale border opening for tourism happening. Infections on the rise, following some relaxing of lockdown, new variants cropping up, coupled with dreadfully slow vaccination programmes.

From the BBC news website:

Quote:
The Politico news service produced a fascinating calculation this week, showing that if the vaccination rollout continues at the current rate, Belgium won't reach the threshold of protecting 70% of its population until July 2023.
The date calculated for Germany was September 2022.
That would suggest we should be asking about the holiday prospects for next year or the year after - not this July or August.
Now of course the Belgian and German governments - and the European Commission - would argue that the rollout is going to gather pace as supplies improve and new vaccines are approved. And so it might.
But what those figures show is that the vaccination programme so far in the EU has been a disaster. Less than 10% of the EU population has been vaccinated so far, against 31% in the UK and 52% in Israel.

@dan100, You may well need to hold your nerve as they will have to cancel and at that point they will have to refund you - if you cancel you may lose all monies paid. Naming and shaming on here may also help, but then again, it may not! It is conceivable that they will try and get you to roll forward to 2022 which may not be any use as imagine that as it's a school trip the same kids may not be able/ want to go.

I think the view is hold nerve - sensibly TO could cancel now. As a governor I'm less stressed than the head. TO guidance saying that it only matters what is happening in destination country rather than travel ban in UK. having looked at the position and read the comments on here doesn't seem like any prospect of tourism opening in Austria

@dan100, sensible - if UK not allowing foreign travel they will also have to cancel so not just what's happening in destination country. For obvious reasons TOs hanging out to punters' cash for as long as possible.

UK landing ban has just been extended to 21st March, not that anything will open at that point anyway, but certainly the border will stay closed to tourists until that point at least.
