Having had our planned Verbier trip cancelled and following on from this discussion, my partner and I are booked into Fort William Thursday-Sunday next week. Would be keen to hear any recommendations for half day or shorter day tours in the area so we can broaden out our options beyond resort.
We have ~3 years' touring experience, both guided (in Chamonix and around Espace Killy), and self-guided (around Andermatt). We're both happy skiing reasonably steep stuff (topping out at ~45deg) if not too exposed. But we're not climbers and our experience of ski mountaineering (ice axe/boot crampons) is very limited, so would rather avoid routes with high exposure and/or risk of long slides.
Have done some googling and seen a lot of recommendations around Aviemore, less on the West Coast - I know there's some great stuff out there so any recommendations much appreciated!

Hi schauspiele, I think it was me who directed you up to Maigelshutte (Andermatt) a season or two ago.
Regarding all things touring in Scotland find "British Backcountry" on facebook.
They are a huge bunch of folk who are sharing info on a daily basis. I would be surprised if somebody on there can't give you an assist.

@schauspiele, I think the Scottish Mountaineering Club reprinted the classic Ski Touring in Scotland book. It makes fantastic reading.

@schauspiele, +1 if you're on Facebook for hitting up the British Backcountry Group page if you're not already on it. Plenty info shared on a daily basis.
Do also visit https://www.sais.gov.uk it's a daily update from the Scottish Avalanche Information Service detailing current snow and avalanche conditions. Info you need will be on the Lochaber page.

Hallo, thanks everyone for all this, that's brilliant! I'm a rare Facebook holdout but will see if I can find a way into the British Backcountry group as it sounds really useful. Lots of research to do on the wintersun site, fatmap, etc and thanks also for the link to SAIS. I have also found a guide to Glencoe touring - does anyone know it? (There's a Nevis Range one by the same author but it is out of stock online.)
@viv, funny you should suggest that - I was contemplating entering the Coe Cup at Glencoe as that happens to be running on Saturday - skied in it a few years ago and had a great day but sadly registration is now closed. Not sure my fitness would stand up to an uphill race but appreciate the thought!
@Rogerdodger - you did send us to the Maighelshutte and we are very much in your debt - enjoyed it so much that we went back the next year to ski to it from the Gemsstock over the Maighels Pass and climbed Paxolastock the next day. We also made it to the Rotondohutte during the same holiday which I think was also one of your suggestions! Big thanks to you once again as that first trip was really what got us into self-guided touring.

The books by Kenny Biggin are great. The SMC Ski touring book is a bit dated but still good.
Things change very quickly here so have a good look at weather forecasts (MWIS is good) and SAIS avalanche forecast.
