Picked up a pair of these in 185cm (3 weeks after picking up a pair of slalom skis because of the conditions - how things change) from a mate who was selling them reasonably cheap.

We had a good dump in Chamonix and I took them out of Tuesday for some powder laps for the first time.

As with all new skis, took a bit of getting used to, being 18mm wider and much more centre mounted than my current skis. Once I got the confidence to let them go though - amazing! Got a couple of fresh tracks runs which were straight out of the top drawer. I'm happy that this ski does everything I hoped it would in terms of float and ease of turn initiation. I wasn't ripping big GS turns but shorter, bouncy powder turns felt great.

Where I was most impressed though was in the chop and tracked out stuff that came after. I'm used to my legs burning constantly when skiing this kind of stuff but the BCs felt much more able to navigate this stuff with a mixture of floating and bashing. The extra width and the boat-shaped tips made everything much easier and when my mates were complaining of being knackered I was itching for another lap.

On piste they were fine, though the pistes were nice and soft due to the new snow. I wouldn't fancy them on hardpack. Obviously I'm gonna be smearing and pivoting them on piste most of the time but on the one or two occasions I was able to lay them over and pick up some speed they carved a turn perfectly well.

No real point to this thread other than to maybe provide some experience for anyone else thinking of trying a 'big' ski for the first time. Go for it! Nowhere near as difficult to ski as I'd previously thought, even on piste. Took to them after one run.

My quiver now consists of a 165cm Rossi slalom ski, a 102mm waist 179cm all-mountain ski with shifts, some 180cm, 95mm waist lightweight skis with Dynafit Speed Turns for longer tours and these Bent Chetlers. That's it right? All bases covered? Have I finally defeated N+1??? Maybe I should take up park skiing....

@Meltus, are they the ones with wood effect top sheet? LynnX saw them in a local shop a few years back and said to me "they're nice, don't you want some?", then saw the price....... Very Happy

@Meltus, I have had the same skis in the same length for the last 5 years, perhaps the model was one year earlier, the dark purple/black version with mountains in the background. They are amazingly versatile although in heavy or cruddy snow I prefer my narrower Enforcer Frees. I've done everything from icy steep blacks on piste to huge amounts of off piste on them, plus tours up to 850m vert. A truly great ski.

My 4 ski quiver is Nordica Dobermann SL skis, Elan FIS GS's, Nordica Enforcer Free 104s and the Bents.
