I'm taking my 14 year old daughter away next month and am trying to pick a french resort. She'll be attending ski school etc, but i'm keen to pick the best resort for teens to ensure she has a good time and wants to go back. I think i've narrowed it to Val d'sere, Les Arc & Tignes. Any tips on which would be best? Ideally something where she can make friends!

Any of the above will be great, she'll make friends in ski school so none better than any other on that front.
Val D'Isere has the best skiing and nicest town out of the three IMO, costs the most tho!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The biggest difference is likely to be how well she gets on with the instructor and others in her class and from that point of view I don't think there is likely to be a predictable difference so I wouldn't worry too much.
However as a beginner I would tend to slightly favour Tignes over Val D'Isere and Les Arcs over them both. There are really good nursery slopes in both Val D'Isere and Tignes however the slopes to progress to after are up the mountain and the ways back down the mountain are far less easy in Val DIsere, you are also rather more reliant on a bus service.( a very good and free one though),
In both Val D'Isere and more especially Tignes if the weather is bad and the visibility poor there are limited areas to ski and although in March you would hope for good weather most of the time it is never guaranteed in the mountains . Les Arcs has a lot of tree sheltered runs if the weather is bad.
Having said all that, I would emphasis that she should hopefully have a great time in any of the three and I wouldn't worry too much about the difference.

For the reasons given above by @T Bar, I'd also endorse Les Arcs, specifically 1800 village for hard to match balance.
Taken our two teenagers there recently and both voted it one of the best places they've been.

Completely unpredictable. Even if she makes friends in ski school she won't necessarily be able to socialize with them in the evenings. The nature of your accommodation might make more difference. A big catered chalet or chalet hotel might provide the best chance of some similar aged kids.

+1 for points by @pam w,
what type of accommodation are you thinking of booking? What sort of activities does your daughter enjoy apart from (hopefully) the skiing?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Oh and I meant to ask...the other big Tarentaise area, 3 Valleys, (Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens, etc) didn’t make your shortlist. Just wondered why, as that might guide best choice from the three that did.

@juliette_losardo@yahoo.co, What apres ski activities would be of interest to her? Egs live music; DJ sets; ice skating; working on the goggle tan; shopping.

You know it makes sense.

Val & Tignes are probably not the best choice for beginners.
Morzine/Les Gets, loads of blues mingling all over the mountain. Cant comment on Les Arcs as never been

Personally I think La PLagne is far better than Les Arc stayed in 1800 and it was great awesome bar called La Mine too, also stayed in La Coches which is between LA PLagne and Les Arc great spot for getting about. La Rosiere is well geared up for famililes and the runs are compliant it's quite a small village but perfect for a week. Tignes is good but at 14 and new to skiing they won't need a mega resort. Les Gets again would be ideal one of the prettiest villages and ideal skiing it's a tad low though I've been there in all weathers blazing sun, rain and huge dumps still well worth a visit.

Yes, this. I'd say a chalet hotel would be the best option. Or even UCPA?

If they qualify, age-wise, for UCPA - yes, well worth investigating.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I’m booking with Club Med so it’s all included and no faff...the resort options on my dates are:
Tignes
Les Arc (1600)
Val d’Isere (no kid club)
La Plagne
So I need to pick from those.

^ Val is the best on that list.
But the other three are good, too. No bad resorts there.
PS. Might be best to edit your username. It appears to show your name, family name, and a guessable email address. Too much public info.

@Juls1980 I'd add CM Peissey-Vallandry to your list. It's on the other "side" of Les Arcs next to the cable car to La Plagne. All the facilities of 1600 but a bit cheaper as it's an older resort.
It's also a personal recommendation as I'm off there on Sunday (and that's a repeat visit)
